Jon Klassen’s Hat Box is a gorgeous new boxed set from Candlewick Press, featuring all three of the author’s beloved hat trilogy: I Want My Hat Back, This is Not My Hat, and We Found a Hat.
I’ve been a huge fan of these books and their twisted sense of humor for a while now, but the packaging on the new Hat Box set is particularly gorgeous. The box is hefty and sturdy, and usually I find the packaging on box sets not worth keeping — but in this case, I’ll gladly keep the book shelved within this beautiful box, featuring Klassen’s artwork from the books.
The boxed set also includes a gorgeous art print featuring the bear and the rabbit from I Want My Hat Back. (An art print which I will soon be framing to hang up in one of my twins’ nurseries.)
As I mentioned before, the books themselves are delightful. If you haven’t discovered Klassen’s work for yourself yet, this is the perfect way to dive in. Each book features charming, stylized illustrations that accompany simple text to tell three stories revolving around missing, stolen, or found hats. There’s some twisted, dark humor — although always age appropriate. And what I love most about these books, is that they delight and entertain both young kids and the adults reading with them.
Jon Klassen’s Hat Box is available now, and perfect for holiday gifting. Here’s the official description:
Hold on to all of your hats at once for this special collection of Jon Klassen’s celebrated hat trilogy.
The bear’s hat is gone, and he wants it back. A fish has stolen a hat; will he get away with it? Two turtles have found one hat, but the hat looks good on both of them. . . . Jon Klassen’s deliciously deadpan hat tales continue to surprise and delight readers of all ages, and they are all now available in one impeccably designed boxed set along with a free frameable print. Included are:
I Want My Hat Back
This Is Not My Hat
We Found a Hat

The best hat I ever wore was a huge fluffy fake white fur. I looked like a Cossack :).
I don’t know why we haven’t read all of these yet! We loved we found a hat! I’m sure my girls would be super excited for these!
This boxed set looks beautiful! My favorite hat right now is the one I wear when I go running because it covers my ears perfectly and keeps my head warm on chilly mornings.
I don’t wear hats a lot but I do have a favorite that a friend gave me. It’s a postal workers ball cap that he gave me because quite a few of my friends are only here in town on a seasonal basis and don’t have local mailing addresses. When they’re here I let them use my mailbox for whatever mail comes in for them and I call them or deliver it when things arrive. Some of them even call me “The Postman”.
I have lots of nice hats from my travels. I particularly love a winter hat that says Ski Dubai. From the indoor ski slope in Dubai.
My favorite hat was a red Kentucky Derby hat with a feather. I felt so classy!
The best hat I wore was a red Kentucky derby hat woth a feather. I felt so classy!
“Tell us in the comments of the blog post about the best hat you’ve ever worn!” A 1940s hat with a fancy label that I bought in 6th grade from a kid who said his grandfather was an ambassador (which I’m sure was a lie).
The best hat I’ve ever worn is my “mom” hat as it has been the best part of my life so far.
These books look beautiful and I have a niece on the way!
I have a special black hat that I only wear occasionally but I’m complimented on it every time I do! 🙂
