Obsidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff + Blog Tour Contest

Today’s review is part of the official blog tour. Keep reading for your chance to win a copy of the book!

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff is a mind-blowing and exhilarating conclusion to an already stellar, ground-breaking series.

I have loved every installment on The Illuminae Files (which is no small feat, considering how dang picky I am about sci fi — it’s not a genre I read regularly) — and with Obsidio, we finally see all the pieces from the first two books come together into a truly delightful and heart-pounding finale.

Let me be clear about a few things:

1) I LOVED this book. I loved reading it, I loved the stories, I loved the characters (both new and old), and I loved the ending. I loved it all.

2) Reading this book felt like a workout! I quite literally felt winded by the end of this book, possibly because I would hold my breath for pages at a time. (Okay, maybe a slight exaggeration, but you get my point.) And my point is this: though I LOVED how this book played out, I was SO UNCERTAIN about SO MUCH for SO LONG, that I felt like I was on the edge of my seat the entire time.

Reading this book was exhausting in the same way that a good work out is exhausted: I felt wrecked, but I felt good about it. Wrecked in a good way. That makes sense, right? (Look, if I’m not making sense, let’s just go ahead and blame that on my brain still being blown by how amazing Obsidio was, okay?)

Kaufman and Kristoff kept me guessing right up until the very end. Reading Obsidio, there were a lot of gasps and some tears (and some laughter) and some swoons and some really delighted fist pumps. (Actual, literal fist-pumps. My husband was so confused. Whatever. There are parts of this book worthy of the mighty fist-pump!)

Obsidio took me on an emotional roller coaster, and I loved every minute of it – the highs and lows and the ultimately triumphant ending. Look for it in stores March 13th.

About Obsidio:

Kady, Ezra, Hanna, and Nik narrowly escaped with their lives from the attacks on Heimdall station and now find themselves crammed with 2,000 refugees on the container ship, Mao. With the jump station destroyed and their resources scarce, the only option is to return to Kerenza—but who knows what they’ll find seven months after the invasion?

Meanwhile, Kady’s cousin, Asha, survived the initial BeiTech assault and has joined Kerenza’s ragtag underground resistance. When Rhys—an old flame from Asha’s past—reappears on Kerenza, the two find themselves on opposite sides of the conflict.

With time running out, a final battle will be waged on land and in space, heros will fall, and hearts will be broken.

About Gemina (Book #2):

Moving to a space station at the edge of the galaxy was always going to be the death of Hanna’s social life. Nobody said it might actually get her killed.

The sci-fi saga that began with the breakout bestseller Illuminae continues on board the Jump Station Heimdall, where two new characters will confront the next wave of the BeiTech assault.

Hanna is the station captain’s pampered daughter; Nik the reluctant member of a notorious crime family. But while the pair are struggling with the realities of life aboard the galaxy’s most boring space station, little do they know that Kady Grant and the Hypatia are headed right toward Heimdall, carrying news of the Kerenza invasion.

When an elite BeiTech strike team invades the station, Hanna and Nik are thrown together to defend their home. But alien predators are picking off the station residents one by one, and a malfunction in the station’s wormhole means the space-time continuum might be ripped in two before dinner. Soon Hanna and Nik aren’t just fighting for their own survival; the fate of everyone on the Hypatia—and possibly the known universe—is in their hands.

But relax. They’ve totally got this. They hope.

About Illuminae (Book #1):

Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the worst thing she’d ever been through. That was before her planet was invaded. Now, with enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra are forced to fight their way onto one of the evacuating craft, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But the warship could be the least of their problems. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their biggest threat; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady plunges into a web of data hacking to get to the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: Ezra.

Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents–including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more–Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

  1. I’m so excited for Obsidio to finally be released! I’ve had Illuminae and Gemina in my tbr since they’ve each been released but I’ve been waiting for Obsidio to be in my hands before I start reading the series because I’m sure I’ll love the series and didn’t want to face the agony of waiting for each release to find out what happens next. Your review has me even more convinced that I’ll love this series. I’m picky about Sci-Fi as well as I don’t read it much either but what I do enjoy from this genre I absolutely love! ?
