It’s a little bittersweet to be marking the end of our week-long feature with Mundie Moms. For the past several days, we’ve been bringing you our favorite spoiler-y moments from City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare. And alas, today is our final post in this feature. And now, for our final scene this week, we turn back to Jace & Clary. They have so many great moments in this book, but one of our favorites is on pages 102-104, when Jace sees Clary at the bridal dress shop.
Why do we love this scene so much? Sure, it’s pre-communication, so the relationship is a bit on the rocks. But at the same time, it’s so obvious that both Clary and Jace have it bad for the other. They are sweet and awkward and adorable.
Here’s a brief excerpt:
Clary walked back into the room. Her hair was up now, in sparkling pins, with a few curls hanging loose. “I don’t know,” she was saying as she came closer to them. “Karyn got her hands on me and did my hair, but I’m not sure about the sparkles –”
She broke off as she saw Jace. It was clear from her expression that she hadn’t been expecting him either. Her lips parted in surprise, but she said nothing. Jace, in his turn, was staring at her, and for once in his life Simon could read Jace’s expression like a book. It was as if everything else in the world had fallen away for Jace but himself and Clary, and he was looking at her with an unconcealed yearning and desire that made Simon feel awkward, as if he had somehow walked in on a private moment.
Jace cleared his throat. “You look beautiful.”
