Becca Fitzpatrick: Crescendo Q&A Part 2

Today, we’ve got part 2 of our two-part exclusive interview with Hush, Hush and Crescendo author Becca Fitzpatrick. Thanks once again to Becca for taking time away from her ridiculously busy schedule right now to answer all our questions! In case you missed it, be sure to check out Part 1 and keep reading for Part 2.

Oh, and make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the (tentative) first sentence of Book 3!!!

Dreams are particularly important to Nora and Patch in Crescendo. How did you come up with this form of connection between them?

All credit goes to my editor. She actually thought up the dream communication device while riding the subway to work!

Detective Basso. I get the feeling he knows more about what’s really going on than he lets on. Will he become a bigger part of the action in the third book?

He does return in the third book, and you’re right if you think there is more to him than meets the eye.

If you’d stopped Crescendo about six paragraphs earlier, things would have been dramatically different. How did that major dramatic twist at the end come to be?

I wasn’t planning on ending CRESCENDO with such a big twist. As often happens when I’m writing, my muse throws things at me without warning. This was the case with those final paragraphs. As soon as I finished them, I thought, “I have to delete this. Readers will kill me if I leave it in.” But the more I sat on the ending, the more I warmed to it. As a reader, I enjoy speculating what happens next. I hope my readers get that same satisfaction.

We know you can’t say too much about the third book – but can you give us any little nuggets? Maybe something people can only read about here at Novel Novice?

I’ve only just begun writing the novel, so it’s hard for me to say much of anything at this point. And even though I think I have the novel plotted out, I’ve done this enough now to know everything is going to change…six times over, ha! But I will say that Patch and Nora team up for the first time and work together to fight the story’s villain. (If you’ve read the end of CRESCENDO, you know exactly who that villain is.) I can also share the first line of the story with you, but I should warn you that there’s always a chance it will change…

As a rule, I kiss with my eyes closed, but tonight temptation got the better of me, and I stole a glimpse.

As you’ve been writing the third book, have you gotten an idea about whether it will be the final book in this series, or do you think there’s still a 4th book in this series?

At this point, it’s just too hard to say. I have a feeling it will be the final book, but ask me again in six months 🙂

What books would you recommend to fans hankering for more after reading your book(s)?

Kelley Armstrong’s Darkest Powers series, Alyson Noel’s Immortals series, The Dark Divine by Bree Despain, and Firelight by Sophie Jordan.

Thanks yet again to Becca! And tune in tomorrow for a video in which Becca answers our flash questions!
