Two New Christmas Picture Books – Perfect for Gifting

holiday-reads

I have two new adorable holiday picture books to share with you today, both of which are available now and would only make great gifts — both books even include a place to write “To” and “From” on the inside pages. But they’d also just be fun to sit around and read with your little ones leading up to Christmas.

the-lost-giftThe Lost Gift by Kallie George & Stephanie Graegin

In this charming Christmas-themed picture book that feels like a classic, four animals deliver a lost package for Santa.

It’s Christmas Eve, and Bird, Rabbit, Deer, and Squirrel are eagerly waiting for Santa to fly overhead. When he does, a gift tumbles out of his sleigh, landing in the woods. The friends find the gift and read the tag: “For the new baby at the farm. Love, Santa.” And so, in spite of Squirrel’s grumbling—“It’s not our baby”—they set off on a long journey to deliver it. Sweet, poignant, and starring a cast of truly adorable characters, this is a story sure to be shared year after year at Christmastime.

I loved the way Squirrel groaned and grumbled through everything; that’s totally me in a lot of situations! And, like Squirrel, my friends and loved ones can usually talk me into (begrudgingly) going along with the plan. I also loved how the book shows that the joy of a baby — which is so pure and innocent and true — can make anyone feel good, even grumpy old me. I mean Squirrel. 😉

The illustrations are also GORGEOUS!

The twelve days of Christmas have never looked so fun! Turn page after page of this innovative picture book based on the classic carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” and watch as twelve days of gifts appear through clever peek-through holes on each page! Young children will especially love anticipating all the presents and seeing them arrive as if by magic. This interactive and lively book is sure to be a family favorite at Christmastime year after year.

Teckentrup’s illustrations for this peek-through retelling of the famous song are so charming and adorable. And the peek-through designs are really clever and fun to reveal, as you turn each page and discover the next verse.
