Fans of Delirium by Lauren Oliver will be on the edge of their seats when they pick up the hotly-anticipated sequel, Pandemonium — which continues where the cliffhanger first novel left off.
I’m pushing aside the memory of my nightmare,
pushing aside thoughts of Alex,
pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school,
like Raven taught me to do.
The old life is dead.
But the old Lena is dead too.
I buried her.
I left her beyond a fence,
behind a wall of smoke and flame.
Lauren Oliver delivers an electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Delirium. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance, and the sparks of a revolution about to ignite.
Pandemonium picks up right where Delirium left off — but alternates chapters between two time frames: Lena’s time immediately after escaping into the Wilds and her time later, working “undercover” in New York City.
As with her other novels, Oliver’s writing is beautiful — though at times, it can make the story feel bogged down. That won’t stop fans from hanging on her every word as they feverishly turn the pages to find out what will happen next. The action-packed sequences are balanced out nicely with Lena’s transformation from city girl, to toughened rebel.
The development of a new love interest unfolds naturally, though a bit predictably — and the big twist at the end may not be as surprising as the author intended (again, it’s a bit predictable). However, Oliver has set up a compelling new paramour for Lena, which will lead nicely into the third and final book. And die-hard fans of the series will be left with little to complain about.
Pandemonium is in stores on Tuesday, February 28th.
