Today, we bring you part 2 of our NEW exclusive interview with Kimberly Derting, the all-around fantastic lady and author of The Body Finder and Desires of the Dead!
It must have taken some preparation to write from the POV of a serial killer. What kinds of things did you do and how did you handle that emotionally?
Ha, I love writing from the bad guy’s POV! And the only emotion I experience when writing these scenes is giddiness. I know, creepy, right?!?
What does your writing process look like? Did it differ from TBF to DotD?
It wasn’t too different, although writing a book that’s under contract was a little strange for me at first. Fortunately, I was halfway finished with DotD when I signed my first book deal. I definitely had to be more organized the second time around since it was a series book. And for the third one I’ve actually had to (gasp!) start outlining!
If Violet were killed/died, what would her echo look/smell/sound like and why?
Wow, tough question! Hmm…I have no idea because, really, killing off Violet probably wouldn’t be a great move for me, or for the series. Plus, Jay would be so sad. 🙁
And here are our 2011 flash questions:
If they made a Kimberly Derting candle, what would it smell like?
Chocolate! Or maybe Pirates Booty Popcorn.
Favorite cartoon?
Adventure Time. It’s random, weird, and I swear the voice of the dog is Bender from Futurama.
Chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate, for sure!
Your personal theme song?
Pink’s “Raise Your Glass.” Or maybe it’s just that I love that song!
You’re on a deserted island and have to read one book for the rest of your life. What is it?
Some sort of non-fiction, do-it-yourself book that teaches me how to build a boat. Seriously, get me off this island!
Favorite book as a child?
Charlotte’s Web. I cried! Every. Single. Time.
Secret talent?
I can stand on the tops of my toes! My youngest daughter inherited this (useless) talent as well.
Thank you once again to Kim for answering all our questions — both the serious ones and the outrageously ridiculous ones!

LOL! Adventure Time is my favorite cartoon too! I even watch all those rerun marathons on the weekends. 😛 And Jake’s voice is the same as Bender’s. John Di Maggio does voices for everything, I swear. 😀
