We are sharing entries from our second-annual Literary Lovers Mash-Up Writing Contest — which offered you the chance to combine two romantic heroics from different books. We’ll be featuring all of the qualifying stories over the next few days, so check back periodically for all of these great submissions! Participants will also be receiving a set of Novel Novice bookmarks!
Today we have Racheal M.’s entry, featuring Clary from The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare & Daniel from Lauren Kate’s Fallen series:
Clary’s breath caught in her throat. He was handsome. He seemed to give off a subtle light about him. His golden hair, his muscled body, his easy grin. She was love struck. Daniel sensed Clary’s gaze almost immediately. He turned towards her and smiled. She was thin, and short, with fiery red hair. She held a confidence about her that made him want her. He had heard of a fiery red head, who was making a name for herself. She slayed demons, and he was a fallen angel. She had tried before to deny him, but they both knew what they felt.
He headed straight to wear she was standing at the ledge of the roof top. At least she agreed to meet him. She immediately started fidgeting with herself, trying to calm her nerves. He made her stomache flutter like a butterfly trapped in jar. He reached her, and cupped her face in his palms. She tried to look away, but his hold was firm. He wasn’t going to let her run again, and pretend she didn’t feel the very same way he did. She looked into his smoldering gaze, wanting to protest, but she couldn’t speak. He lowered his face to hers, warm breath on her lips, never losing eye contact.
“I want you Clary. I want to love you, and you want to love me. Stop fighting it,” he whispered.
“But, Jace…Luce…” She tried to think. Tried to make him see that they would hurt people they cared about.
“Right now, they is only us. I love you Clary.
He kissed her then, with no regrets. They didn’t worry about who they would hurt. Their kiss deepened, Clary’s arms snaked around his neck. His forearms pressed against her back, melding her body to his. Her feet lifted up off the ground, as his beautiful wings unfurled and beat against the night air. A soft glow illuminated their figures in the cool night. Clary trusted him to not drop her. Daniel looked into her eyes. She couldn’t keep running, it was pointless.
“I love you too, Daniel.”
Lovely!
So excited! Thank you so much for posting my piece! And thank you Gretchen for the kind word.
