Let me share with you a book that I LOVED. The Roommate by Rosie Danan was absolutely spectacular, and I loved it the second I read it. Her latest book, The Intimacy Experiment, a companion follow-up, is equally fantastic but in enticing new ways.
Naomi Grant has built her life around going against the grain. After the sex-positive start-up she cofounded becomes an international sensation, she wants to extend her educational platform to live lecturing. Unfortunately, despite her long list of qualifications, higher ed won’t hire her.
Ethan Cohen has recently received two honors: LA Mag named him one of the city’s hottest bachelors and he became rabbi of his own synagogue. Taking a gamble in an effort to attract more millennials to the faith, the executive board hired Ethan because of his nontraditional background. Unfortunately, his shul is low on both funds and congregants. The board gives him three months to turn things around or else they’ll close the doors of his synagogue for good.
Naomi and Ethan join forces to host a buzzy seminar series on Modern Intimacy, the perfect solution to their problems–until they discover a new one–their growing attraction to each other. They’ve built the syllabus for love’s latest experiment, but neither of them expected they’d be the ones putting it to the test.
Whereas The Roommate titillated, The Intimacy Experiment feels, well … more intimate. It’s an unlikely romance between a former porn star who now runs a sex positive start-up and a young rabbi looking to reinvigorate his congregation. Naomi has a lot of baggage to unpack, and Ethan is equal parts smitten and patient while she overcomes her own past traumas. Ethan is also facing some of his own challenges, and together they stumble through their messy lives and feelings.
I was rooting for Ethan and Naomi from the start, and I loved seeing the two of them interact. Every scene between them was an utter delight to read, whether sweet and innocent, or steamy AF. I just adored this book from the first page to the very last, and would have gladly lingered with them for even longer. I can’t wait to see what Danan writes next.
Thanks to Berkley Romance for the digital review copy. The Intimacy Experiment comes out April 6th.
