So many have, both personally and professionally. Teachers are amazing and giving people. However, my 5th Grade teacher stands out because he encouraged my creativity, letting me write stories, decorate the classroom with my art, and produce plays (my first script was a Thanksgiving play that the class performed for the whole school). He even let me build a house using some paper from the large colored rolls on hand. Suspending it from the ceiling I built this hut around my and my best friend’s desk, with front window shutters that allowed us to see the blackboard. It still amazes me that he let it stay up for several weeks before requiring us to take it down. I think the other students were jealous — or maybe not because they were busy making their own creations or playing chess in the tournaments he organized. I admire all teachers for their dedication, but when they say yes more than no, it can build within students a “I do anything, try anything” mojo that carry’s with them throughout life.
Where do you write?
It’s not really about where but when. With three special needs adult children that I’m helping toward self-sufficiency, my time is extremely limited. So if I’ve a free moment, I’ll whip open my laptop wherever I am—Starbucks, in the car while waiting for someone, the library, or at the kitchen table. But I make sure to turn the screen toward me if I’m writing a sex scene, lol.
What was it like seeing your book cover for the first time?
It’s pretty much the same every time when the cover is not under my control. Excitement and anxiety make my heart pound — will it represent my idea of the story, will I like it, does it pop? So I was absolutely thrilled with Entangled Publishing’s cover for my latest book, SEDUCED, A LONDON SEX CLUB NOVEL. It totally captures the mystery and allure of Club Exotica, my fictitious fantasy world—a place so secret, so wicked, so posh, a woman’s every fantasy can be fulfilled.
I’m happy wherever I write, but currently I’m in an unusual situation. I’m spending 5 months living apart from the rest of my family so I can help our adult son (who has high functioning autism) settle into his SoCal apartment. He’s wanted to attend Moorpark College Teaching Zoo since 4th grade and this is his one big opportunity. So I’m playing den mother to him and another college boy, and my temporary writing spot at a folding table upstairs overlooking a greenspace. It’s by far the nicest view I’ve ever had, but at the same time seeing all my neighbors walking their dogs makes me miss my 2 dogs at home. I’ve warned my hubs that when he comes to visit he may find we’ve acquired another dog. He was not enthused, lol.
What are your writing “must-haves”?
Although sexy pop music is great for setting the mood to write erotic romance, otherwise I’m pretty “whatever” about my writing cave except for…
Morning — I can’t think until I have a cuppa joe handy and have taken a few gulps. Then I nurse it on a little hot pad all morning, feeling a tad sad when I sip the last drop.
Evening — a delicious martini (but not every night for obvious reasons). After a few sips, I hit the sweet spot and can write like the wind. But that loosening up feeling is hard to maintain, too many sips and I get silly, lol.
What surprised you while writing your book?
How much I want Club Exotica to be real. And I want to go there too. It’s my fictitious creation, a world of naughty inside two ritzy London town houses. However, I did discover that right here in SoCal there’s something similar—offering sensual experiences in a safe, luxurious surrounding. That’s if you’ve got ten thou to spare! I wrote about it for Romance Daily News last month, and you can check it out here: http://www.kateallure.com/adventures.php
Weirdest writing inspiration?
I ran across this thing online when I was doing research for my erotic romance LAYING PIPE, about a librarian and the handsome plumber who fixes her leaking pipes and her lonely heart. I wanted my plumber to be creative as he explored BDSM with his new love, and when I found this item I realized there were lots of ways I could work plumbing into the story—such as her spraying him with water, or him using his tools in ingenious ways (he makes his own PVC pipe gag and spreader bar). And I knew the minute I found this crazy thing that I’d have to put it in the story too! I’m going to be mean and not tell you what it is, but if you read my story, I promise you… You’ll never look at a drill the same way again!
Club Rule #4 — Masks are mandatory but clothing is optional.
Dame Victoria Whittingstall, appointed by The Queen to serve in the Royal Courts, thought she’d achieved all her dreams.
But there’s always been something missing when it came to sex. On the heels of a break up with Boring Baron, her long time boyfriend, her best friend treats her to a one night pass to London’s most exclusive sex club.
And completely alive… Club Exotica is straight out of her most forbidden, secret fantasies.
When a handsome stranger finally gives Tori the mind-blowing sex she’s yearned for, she knows one taste will never be enough.
It almost makes her forget about the sexy young barrister that flirts with her at court.
But in Club Exotica, betrayal is around every dark corner and lasting love is elusive.
