Regency-era HGTV take note of this roguish house-flipper and the animal-loving lady next door in The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare. Keep reading for our review & your chance to win a copy!
They call him the Duke of Ruin.
To an undaunted wallflower, he’s just the beast next door.
Wealthy and ruthless, Gabriel Duke clawed his way from the lowliest slums to the pinnacle of high society—and now he wants to get even.
Loyal and passionate, Lady Penelope Campion never met a lost or wounded creature she wouldn’t take into her home and her heart.
When her imposing—and attractive—new neighbor demands she clear out the rescued animals, Penny sets him a challenge. She will part with her precious charges, if he can find them loving homes.
Done, Gabriel says. How hard can it be to find homes for a few kittens?
And a two-legged dog.
And a foul-mouthed parrot.
And a goat, an otter, a hedgehog . . .
Easier said than done, for a cold-blooded bastard who wouldn’t know a loving home from a workhouse. Soon he’s covered in cat hair, knee-deep in adorable, and bewitched by a shyly pretty spinster who defies his every attempt to resist. Now she’s set her mind and heart on saving him.
Not if he ruins her first.
Here’s what my SIL had to say about this historical romance:
Cat ladies are so last year; how about a goat lady? Well, how about goats and cats? And maybe a dirty mouthed parrot? Okay, so Penny may have found herself a spinster surrounded by animals aplenty. Lady Penelope Campion is the daughter of an earl and should be drowning in marriage proposals but instead is too busy drowning in animals, while hiding from society after a terrible debut. Keeping it that way was the plan … until Gabe showed up.
He buys low and sells high. A house flipper of the past, he makes his fortune on other people’s misfortunes and a house next to Lady Penelope would sell for a lot. What he didn’t expect is that the spinster he heard all about would be so young, so good looking, and would make his pants uncomfortable.
The Wallflower Wager will make you laugh out loud and giggle to yourself, make you roll your eyes at Penny and make you want to be her very best friend. It is a wonderful read but beware when reading you come away wanting to adopt a pet!
The Wallflower Wager hits stores on August 13th. But keep reading for your chance to win a copy.

I feel like I no longer have just one favorite animal, I’m always flummoxed when asked this question…toss up between horse, cat, shark, jellyfish.

Dogs and horses are my favorite!
I’m a crazy cat lady
Definitely dogs.
This sounds cute..! My favorite animals would make horrible pets, as they are enormous and have killer appetites. Anybody have a tank I can keep an orca or white/tiger/reef shark in?
