My Plain Jane: Styled by Books + Blog Tour Contest

I’ve got another fun edition of Styled by Books today, this time as part of the blog tour for My Plain Jane — a new twist on the Charlotte Bronte Classic, Jane Eyre, from the authors of My Lady Jane.

Because the cover of this book is so graphic, I wanted to keep my outfit simple — taking cues from the cover’s color scheme – especially that bold pop of yellow in the title, which I mimicked with a statement necklace.

I went with a white lace top and embroidered cardigan as a nod to Jane’s dreamy period outfit that she’s seen wearing here. And then I paired it with a classic pair of blue jeans to echo the blue background of the cover.

One of things I love most about Styled by Books is that it can be as simple — or as elaborate — as you want it to be. The idea is to use books and their beautiful covers as inspiration for your next outfit, and that’s what I had to remind myself when planning today’s look. (Because I did NOT have anything period appropriate for a Jane Eyre retelling, and I was starting to panic!)

Are you a fan of the My Lady Janies series? Then check out these two candles inspired by the first book, My Lady Jane, available now from Three Knocks Candles – “Call Him G” and “King Edward’s First Kiss.” NOVELNOVICE15 will save you a little moolah if you decide to order.

No buy links for today’s outfit, since all the pieces are things I’ve had in my closet for quite a while. But if you’re wondering:

  • Lace Top: Lane Bryant
  • Cardigan: Old Navy
  • Jeans: Land’s End
  • Necklace: Target

Move over, Charlotte Brontë. The authors of the New York Times bestselling My Lady Jane are back with an irreverent spin on Jane Eyre—a tale of mischief, romance, and supernatural mayhem perfect for fans of The Princess Bride or A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue.

You may think you know the story. Penniless orphan Jane Eyre begins a new life as a governess at Thornfield Hall, where she meets one dark, brooding Mr. Rochester—and, Reader, she marries him. Or does she?

Prepare for an adventure of Gothic proportions in this stand-alone follow-up to My Lady Jane, which was called “an utter delight” (ALA Booklist, starred review), and “an uproarious historical fantasy that’s not to be missed” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

We’re the authors of the young adult novels, MY LADY JANE, and MY PLAIN JANE, which is coming in June 2018. Our group is made up of Brodi Ashton (New York Times bestselling author of the EVERNEATH series and DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY), Cynthia Hand (New York Times bestselling author of the UNEARTHLY series, THE LAST TIME WE SAY GOODBYE, THE AFTERLIFE OF HOLLY CHASE, and THE HOW AND THE WHY), and Jodi Meadows (New York Times bestselling author of the INCARNATE trilogy, the ORPHAN QUEEN duology, and the FALLEN ISLES trilogy). Between the three of us we’ve written nineteen novels, a bunch of novellas, a handful of short stories, and a couple of really bad poems, but we have the most fun working on our books together. We’re friends. We’re writers. We’re fixing history by rewriting one sad story at a time.

    1. LOL – thank! That photo was actually an “outtake” (Derek made me laugh), but I liked how it turned out better than the “real” photos!

  1. “What historical figure/literary figure would you love to see a retelling for?” Queen Elizabeth the 1st, maybe!

  2. I’d love to see a retelling of Amelia Earhart’s life and the excitement in finding her wrecked plane on an island recently.

  3. I LOVE this outfit. The top & cardigan are seriously gorgeous, and I want them. I think it’s awesome that you didn’t go literal with it and just used the cover as inspiration. Don’t stress if you can’t go with an actual period perfect outfit. The colors and textures are perfect, and you look fab!

  4. Ohh, I love this blog tour post 😀 Stunning post Sara. ❤ You look GORGEOUS 😀 And love the outfit with the book, eee. Such awesome photos 🙂 I adored this book.
