Today, I’m so pleased to be teaming up with Walt Disney Studios to celebrate the digital release of A Wrinkle in Time!
One of my favorite books growing up was A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. It was assigned as a summer reading book before 7th grade, and I loved it so much that I quickly devoured the rest of the series that same summer. (Yes, I HAVE always been a huge book nerd.)
So you can imagine my excitement when the Disney movie adaptation came out earlier this year. I was so excited that I decided it was time to go back and revisit the book itself — re-reading it for the first time in 20 years! (Gah, when did I get so old??) I still loved the book — though it was certainly a bit weirder than I remembered it (and with a lot more religion than I remembered). But I still enjoyed it, and I was able to take away new meaning from it as an adult. It also made me all the more excited to go see the film adaptation when it hit theaters — which I did, opening weekend.
I know some folks had mixed responses to the movie, but honestly? I really enjoyed it. I thought they did a wonderful job adapting a strange little book into a powerful movie with gorgeous visuals and an unforgettable message, that still rang true with what I took away from reading the book, both as a child and as an adult.
A Wrinkle in Time is now available for digital download (and comes to Blu-ray next Tuesday, June 5th) — and many thanks to Walt Disney Studios for providing me with a free digital copy (and the other goodies pictured above), because I enjoyed watching the movie even more from the comfort of home. I loved being able to notice new details in each scene, and revisiting my favorite parts. (The scene with the bouncing balls STILL gives me chills; it’s exactly how I pictured that moment in the book — so eerie and creepy.)
I’m also excited to dig into a lot of the bonus features with the home release. I always love seeing bloopers and extended/deleted scenes — and in this case, I’m eager to see more of the behind-the-scenes featurettes.
Have you seen A Wrinkle in Time yet? Tell me your thoughts in the comments below!
Wrinkle In Time was definitely a favorite in Junior High. I really need to re-read it and then watch the movie. The bouncing balls also is so vivid in my memory. Thanks for sharing.
Can’t wait to watch the movie on DVD
