The Jungle Book: Blu-ray Review + Giveaway

Today, the “Bare Necessities” can come home with you, with the Blu-ray and DVD release of Disney’s The Jungle Book, the new live action adaptation starring Bill Murray, Ben Kingsley, Idris Elba, and Neel Sethi. We love this new adaptation (and Disney’s original animated version, too) based on Rudyard Kipling’s beloved stories — and we’ve teamed up with Disney Home Entertainment today to offer YOU a chance to win a copy of this gorgeous new movie!

In an epic adventure directed by Jon Favreau (Iron Man), Mowgli, a man-cub raised in the jungle by a family of wolves, is forced to abandon his home when fearsome tiger Shere Khan promises to eliminate him. Guided by stern Bagheera and free-spirited Baloo, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery.

My husband and I watched our copy of the Blu-ray last night, and it was spectacular. I mean, the movie itself is just stunning and really charming, with plenty of fitting tributes to the original Disney classic, as well as borrowing more heavily from Kipling’s work. But the bonus features really enhance the viewing experience, giving you a really fun and interesting look behind-the-scenes with the cast and filmmakers. One of my favorite behind-the-scenes moments showcased when legendary Disney songwriter Richard Sherman teamed up with director Jon Favreau and composer John Debney to rework his beloved song “I Wan’na Be Like You” for Christopher Walken’s incarnation of King Louie.

It’s also so fun getting to see how excited Neel Sethi was to be working on this project; his excitement and joy is infectious. (And he’s also WONDERFUL as Mowgli!)
