Dragon's Gate - Cover Final

Isn’t it just stunning? I adore the covers for this series, beautifully illustrated by Priscilla Wong. I love all the action this one conveys; it makes me even more excited to read The Dragon’s Gate! Here’s more about the book:

What is the Dragon’s Gate? And what ancient power does it contain?

A magical white jade stone and a map inscribed in bone that may be the key to an even greater mystery—this is the treasure Bren and Mouse have found buried on the Vanishing Island. Mouse is determined to follow the map to a place called the Dragon’s Gate, convinced it will explain who she really is and the powers she possesses. Bren has had enough adventure for one lifetime and wants nothing more than to return to his father in Map. But nothing goes according to plan when the survivors of the Albatross are rescued by Lady Jean Barrett, a charismatic archaeologist with a sense of destiny.

Barrett is on a quest for the Eight Immortals, ancient artifacts she believes are buried in the tomb of China’s first emperor—the location of which has been hidden for nearly 2,000 years. The only way for Bren, Mouse, and Barrett to all get what they want is to work together on a dangerous journey into the heart of China, a kingdom long closed to outsiders, where the greatest secrets about Mouse and Bren are waiting to be unveiled.

And if that doesn’t convince you, here are more amazing kid reviews for The Vanishing Island. These kids are all 4th graders in my friend’s class, and their reviews are posted here with their (and their parents’) permission!

The book The Vanishing Island was a fantastic book. It is about a boy who is a little tall for his age and gets in trouble and gets a punishment of working in the vomitorium and finds a dying man who gives him a secret map or secret message that brings him on this awesome adventure to this island called the Vanishing Island on this ship there was the admiral, Bren, Mouse, Otto, Mr.Van Decken, Mr.Richer and Mr.Tybert. I like how at the end it just leaves you hanging.

I would recommend this book to all the people who like action and adventure books to read this book. This is the best book I have ever read. I can’t wait for the next book to come out!!

Chloe:

This book was very interesting with a mixture of gods and seas. I loved it ! Barry Wolverton is clearly a natural storyteller with the tales of a boy wanting the freedom to be at sea on a ship in search for treasure but is that treasure what he wants ? This book is one of my favorites of all time, I can’t wait for the next one.

Caden:

The Vanishing Island was a good book. It was full of adventure and action. I loved it and I think that there should have a whole bunch of other books like that. They should also have the same characters in the first one. They should also have a couple new characters.

Aren’t these amazing! Many thanks to these kiddos & their teacher for sharing these amazing reviews with us!
