About the Author:
Stephanie Guerra is the winner of the 2014 Virginia Hamilton Essay Award for her contributions to the research on multicultural literature. Her debut young adult novel, Torn, received a starred audiobook review from School Library Journal. Kirkus called her “a strong new voice” and Booklist praised her “complex characters.” Betting Blind is the first in an urban YA series dedicated to Stephanie’s writing students at King County Juvenile Detention.

Oh wow. Just when you think he has it pretty crazy – what with his mom and this guy Phil and him trying get by to graduation…in steps a few more things just to sweeten the deal.
Betting Blind is basically a rollercoaster of things that can JUST happen to us in life, and it’s really great to see that it’s actually really relatable and realistic. I’m excited for this!
That’s some complications! But it’s possible.

I Hope You are Having a Lovely Day Today! I Want to Thank You for this Very Generous Opportunity & I Would Love to Read Betting Blind and I Would also Love to Check Out Torn as Well! I Read All the Time but I Get All My Books at the Public Library but I Don’t Really Mind b/c I Love the Way the Old Library Books Smell but When I Go I Try to Stock Up on a Lot of Books b/c it Seems Reading has Become a Big Part of My Life Lately! I Was in a Motorcycle Wreck a Few Years Back and I Really Hurt My Back & Neck and Although I Was Wearing a Helmet I Hit My Head Pretty Hard! I Tried So Hard to Go Back to Work as an Esthetician & Make Up Artist but I Could Barely Stand Up Very Long & I Know it May Not Seem Like it but Doing Facials & Massages All Day Long on My Feet Was Strenuous & Grueling Work and I Would be Driving Home in Tears b/c I Was in Pain but b/c I Was Trying So Hard Not to Let it Show! I Could No Longer Do the Job that I Loved & I Don’t Have Insurance So the Medical Bills are Stacking Up So I Had to Move Back Home with My Parents at 33 yrs old! It’s Very Hard for Me to Lose My Independence & to Have to Rely on My Parents, Who are the Most Loving & Giving Individuals that You Would Ever Meet! I am in Bed A Lot with Horrible Back & Neck Pain and Awful Headaches So to Either Distract Myself or Out of Boredom I Started Doing Cross Word Puzzles and When I Ran Out of Them I Started Reading Some Books My Mom Gave Me! I Don’t Have My Own Computer So When My Mom Wasn’t Using Hers I Would Read on it Some and on the Good Days Where the Pain was Not Quite Bad I Would Go to the Library to Stock Up on Books! Reading Has Become Almost Soothing to Me and it’s a Way I Like to Relax & a Way to Try and Escape My Reality for a Little While! My Relationships or Lack There of, Have Suffered Some b/c I am Not Able to Do All the Things I Used to Much Less Date So I Like to Read Romance Sometimes and Day Dream about What it Would be Like to Met Your Soul Mate! I Have a Whole Broad Range of Reading Material & Interests; I Love Romance, Fiction, Some Non-Fiction, Some Mysteries, I Really Love Paranormal & Supernatural Books, and I Love Reading Books about Angels & Miracles a Lot Too! I Read a Lot of Self Help Books as You Might Would Guess; I Read about How to Over Come Adversity & Physical or Emotional Pain and I Love to Read a Lot of Faith & Spirituality Based Books! Since I Was in that Accident I Have Become Closer to My Family & God b/c I Have No Doubt that Angels Were Watching Over Me That Day! I Like Books that Give Me Hope and that are Uplifting; There Really isn’t Many Book Genres that I Don’t Like Except for Some Biographies, Westerns, Books on War or Historical Events but Only b/c it’s Very Hard for Me to Concentrate Now & They Just Don’t Hold My Interest! I Know I Would Love this Book b/c I Can Relate to the Character, Plus I Love Books Where an Unlikely Couple Ends Up Falling in Love! I Can Relate to Gabe b/c He Also Has a Lot of Odds Stacked Against Him and it Seems Like His Luck Will Never Look Up Just Like Mine but Things do Get Better for Him! I Love When Someone that May Have Had a Rocky Past or Someone that Used to Make Poor Decisions, I Love When They Get a Second Chance! The Way He Holds Out for Real & True Love is Something I Can Definitely Relate to! Most of All I Can Relate to How Gabe Does Everything Just to Try & Fit in; I Know All About Trying to Win People’s Affections and Going Out of My Way to Fit in and it’s Exhausting! I Have No Doubt I Would Enjoy this Book & I am Going to Check Out the Book Torn Right Now, Just to See What it’s About! I Would Just be Happy to Get the Book Alone but it Would be Nice to Have My Very Own Electronic Device, Something I Can Read on and I Would Love to Be Able to Just Download Books Without Having to Go the Library b/c Something So Simply is a Grueling Task for Me at Times! So Thank You for this Opportunity & I Had No Intention to Write My Whole Life Story but I Just Wanted to Explain Why I Felt I Could Relate to This Book, Either That or I Just Needed to Vent & Get A Lot Off My Chest! Hi, I Hope You are Having a Great Day Today! I Have had an Alright, as Good as Can Be Expected I Guess! I am Kind of Bummed b/c My Mother Checked Our Public Library and They Do Not Carry Betting Blind? I Was Hoping They Would Have it or At Least Have the Other Book Torn but Maybe I Will Get Lucky and Find One Used on Amazon or Somewhere! I Really am Looking Forward to Reading this Book and I Will Find a Way Somehow I Hope! Thanks Again to All of You at Novel Novice & to Stephanie Guerra for this Chance!
