Today, I am truly thrilled to be sharing the gorgeous and haunting cover for April Henry’s latest YA novel, The Body in the Woods. April is known for writing edge-of-your-seat thrillers — and this book looks to be no different. Just check out this beautiful but creepy cover to see why:
Stunning, no? Here’s what April herself had to say about the cover:
The book begins with three teens from Portland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue searching for an autistic man lost in Forest Park, one of the largest urban forests in the United States. But instead of the missing man, what the teens find is the body of a high school girl. She’s wearing green eye shadow, and the graphic designer at Henry Holt, April Ward, riffed on that and the prevalence of ferns in Forest Park (as you can see here.)I think the green eye shadow really pops. And I think it’s not clear whether the girl is dead or alive, so that adds an element of mystery. I also like how they’ve created a fingerprint logo for this book, which is the first in a series.
The Body in the Woods will be released in June 2014. Here is the official synopsis:
In this new series told from multiple perspectives, teen members of a search and rescue team discover a dead body in the woods.
Alexis, Nick, and Ruby have very different backgrounds: Alexis has spent her life covering for her mom’s mental illness, Nick’s bravado hides his fear of not being good enough, and Ruby just wants to pursue her eccentric interests in a world that doesn’t understand her. When the three teens join Portland County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, they are teamed up to search for a autistic man lost in the woods. What they find instead is a dead body. In a friendship that will be forged in danger, fear, and courage, the three team up to find the girl’s killer—before he can strike one of their own.
This first book in April Henry’s Point Last Seen YA mystery series is full of riveting suspense, putting readers in the middle of harrowing rescues and crime scene investigations.
