Today, we’ve got a cool little treat for you. One of our long-time blog followers — and frequent entrant in our writing contests — has self-published her first book. Writing under the pen name Parker Stevens, the book is Shades of Darkness:
Anna and Donovan have loved each other since they were children in Ireland. As adults, they are separated by class expectations and a mother who would stop at nothing, even murder, to see her son married to the woman of her choice. Anna is forced to become a Dark One, one of the Irish dark fairies known for their shape-shifting abilities, and their taste for blood. Anna races to reunite with Donovan on the ship of dreams, before he slips away forever. Now time is running out and Anna and Donovan must race against time to save each other.
While we don’t usually feature self-published books here at Novel Novice, we had to make an exception for someone who has been such a dedicated follower of our blog. Today, Parker stops by to guest blog a bit more about her book:

My story Shades of Darkness tells the story of a love that defies class, death and time. My story is set on board the world’s most infamous ship, the Titanic, where we meet Donovan and Anna who have loved each other since they were children.
Anna and Donovan grew up in the wild Irish countryside and came from different worlds. Donovan came from the elite Carlisle family and Anna grew up poor but still they loved each other. As adults they are separated by class expectations and a mother who would stop at nothing to see her son married to the woman of her choice. Anna is forced to become a Dark One, one of the Irish dark fairies known for their shape shifting abilities and their taste for blood. When she disappeared Donovan never gave up hope that he would find her again, two years later he is still looking for her. Donovan is boarding the Titanic for a new life in America and a possible forced marriage to save the family fortune even though Anna still holds his heart. Anna escapes the hold of the master Dark One and races to the RMS Titanic to see Donovan again and to try and solve her own murder. Forces both human and supernatural conspire against them as Anna and Donovan struggle to find and save each other before time runs out.
I am completely fascinated by the mystery that is the Titanic and magic that is Ireland. I am of Irish descent and have always loved the mystery and magic that seems to swirl around everything from Ireland. The Titanic has always held a special place in my heart and I knew when I began to write that I had to combine the two. My characters seemed to demand that I combine them and as any author knows you listen to your characters! I had to do a lot of research on the Queenstown area of Ireland and the details of the Titanic disaster but I was lucky enough to find some really great sources and I actually learned a lot I didn’t know. I really hope that everyone loves my story and my characters as much as I do.
