Beyond Of Poseidon by Anna Banks: Famous Mermaids

This week, we’ve already discussed mermaids in pop culture — and in a bit of crossover, today we’re looking at famous mermaids. It’s all part of our June Book of the Month Of Poseidon by Anna Banks, a great new YA novel with a mermaid twist.

Ariel

From Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” this red-headed siren is perhaps the most easily-recognizable mermaid across the globe.

Starbucks

When you get your morning coffee fix, that is indeed a mermaid on that paper Starbucks cup.

Copenhagen Statue

This bronze statue seen in Copenhagen’s harbor is one of the most famous depictions of “The Little Mermaid” from Hans Christian Anderson’s fairy tale.

  1. Another story about a mermaid is “Aquamarine” by Alice Hoffman, a fun read and I love Hoffman’s writings. Later it was made into a movie starring, Sara Paxton as the mermaid.
