Masque of the Red Death: Poe-Inspired Writing Contest

In honor of our May Book of the Month, we have a really exciting new writing contest for you. Masque of the Red Death by Bethany Griffin is an inspired re-imagining of Edgar Allan Poe’s short story of the same name. So we’re using that as inspiration for this month’s contest!

The Contest

Write a 250-500 word short story inspired by a short story or poem by Edgar Allan Poe.

You may submit a complete story or an excerpt, so long as it is 250-500 words max. Use proper spelling & grammar, and be sure to tell us in the entry form which poem or short story served as your inspiration. Let Poe’s work spark your imagination!

Submit your entry using the Novel Novice Poe-Inspired Writing Contest Entry Form.

(And we’ll be featuring tons of Poe’s work next week on Novel Novice, so if you need ideas on how to get started, we’ll help you out!)

The Prizes

Three winners will each be awarded one of the following prizes, provided by Bethany:

1st place: a copy of Masque of the Red Death with annotations & notes from Bethany herself, a bracelet, bookmark, signed bookmark & an Edgar Allan Poe candle

2nd place: A finished copy of Masque of the Red Death, a bracelet, bookmark & bookplate.

3rd place: an ARC of Masque of the Red Death & a bookmark

  1. You guys always have the best writing contest ideas! Can’t wait to get mine finished, even though staying in that 500 word limit can be so hard sometimes! ;D
