All this week, we’re going retro here at Novel Novice and featuring our favorite things from the 1990s. Or rather, we’re featuring Jay Asher’s and Carolyn Mackler’s favorite things from the ’90s, as we get ready for the Nov. 21st release of their novel The Future of Us, which takes place in 1996.

Today, we asked Jay and Carolyn about their favorite fads of the ’90s (styles, fashions, technology, etc.). Here’s what they had to say:

Jay Asher:

Carolyn Mackler:

Overalls. Come back!

For the comments: What’s your favorite “fad” of the ’90s?

The Future of Us in stores Nov. 21st:

It’s 1996, and less than half of all American high school students have ever used the Internet.

Emma just got her first computer and an America Online CD-ROM.

Josh is her best friend. They power up and log on–and discover themselves on Facebook, fifteen years in the future.

Everybody wonders what their Destiny will be. Josh and Emma are about to find out.
