If you haven’t seen the official book trailer for The Revenant by Sonia Gensler yet, you’re in for a treat. For starters, it as made by the lovely Vania Stoyanova of VLC Productions — who we are always a big fan of. Secondly, it perfectly captures the creepy yet beautiful elements of The Revenant.
Vania herself stops by today for a quick Q&A about this trailer:
What’s your favorite part of THE REVENANT book trailer?
The smoke! And the creepy stairs!!
What’s the challenge of making a trailer using stock footage/photos — as opposed to doing a custom shoot? Any benefits to using stock footage in this particular case?
The hardest part is that I wasn’t able to read it before hand and experience Sonia’s writing and voice. Being able to read it helps me set the mood better in the trailer but Sonia and I had talked and I looked at a lot of imagery to make sure that we chose elements that successfully evoked the creepy elements as well as imagery that fit the images.
This trailer is creepy — and the book is, too. How did you capture that spooky element in the trailer?
Music is the easiest way to do that. And of course imagery that evokes that creepy element as well.
Can you tell us what projects you’re working on next?
I am working on Carrie Jones’ AFTER OBSESSION and after that Kody Keplinger’s SHUT OUT! So different but such fun books!
