Juniper Berry by M.P. Kozlowsky,  “a tale of temptation and terror,” was exactly as described.

Juniper is a typical 11-year old girl, with a pair of not-typical parents. Being the world’s most famous actor and actress, Juniper’s parents used to be the best mother and father in the world. But soon Juniper starts to notice they have been acting VERY strange lately. And then, it gets worse. They’re hurting themselves, and it’s scaring Juniper. So she spies on them one night, and finds they’re going to someone. They’re making deals, with a terrible price. And Juniper will do anything to try and stop them from making the deals.

The whole time I was reading, I was in suspense. Juniper was so brave, just having to watch her only family get hurt in the worst possible ways. I know that this book was fiction, but in a way, it could be real. What if you made a deal with a horrible price? You would regret it, just like Juniper’s parents.

I really loved this book a lot. It really kept me on the edge of my seat. I have always admired authors who can write stories that really scare the living daylights out of you. I have tried to SO many times, and it feels impossible at some points. I think M.P Kozlowsky is a very gifted author, and I plan on reading more of his books.

In the end, we should realize, we should love ourselves the way we were. We shouldn’t wish to make something happen. It would just be unnatural. We don’t have to make the same mistakes Mr. and Mrs. Berry made.

Juniper Berry is in stores April 26th! Here is the official synopsis & the book trailer:

Juniper Berry’s parents are the most beloved actor and actress in the world—but Juniper can’t help but feel they haven’t been quite right lately. And she and her friend Giles are determined to find out why.

On a cold and rainy night, Juniper follows her parents as they sneak out of the house and enter the woods. What she discovers is an underworld filled with contradictions: one that is terrifying and enticing, lorded over by a creature both sinister and seductive, who can sell you all the world’s secrets bound in a balloon. For the first time, Juniper and Giles have a choice to make. And it will be up to them to confront their own fears in order to save the ones who couldn’t.

M.P. Kozlowsky’s debut is a modern-day fairy tale of terror, temptation, and ways in which it is our choices that make us who we are.
