It’s time to announce the winners from several recent contests here at Novel Novice. So without further ado, let’s begin …

For this contest, we asked you which paranormal talent from Clarity by Kim Harrington you’d most like to have, and why. We chose two winners at random, and each will receive a copy of Clarity, courtesy of Scholastic & Big Honcho Media.
Winner #1 is Missie B., who said “Psychic” and here’s why:
It would be cool to be able to win the lotto a couple of times. Then I wouldn’t have to work… which would mean more time for reading. 😀
Winner #2 is Susan D., who said “Telephatic” and here’s why:
I would choose to be telepathic rather than psychic or a medium. In my opinion, being psychic or a medium would be more of a burden than a gift; however, being telepathic would be a very useful ability. I would use my telepathy to help those around me. I’m always trying to help my friends and family when they’re in a time of need, and telepathy would allow me to help them with both the physical and the emotional.

For our Fantastic Faeries Contest, we asked you to tell us what you like about reading faerie fiction.
Our first place winner is Rachael M., who will receive an advanced copy of Aprilynne Pike’s Illusions:
I have always been in love with faeries. Ever since I was a little girl. Faeries were my first fantasy passion. They spurred me into the land of make believe, were things like vampires, weres, elves, witches, demons, and so on, all existed. The first faerie I remember, as I am sure most would say, was Tinkerbell. But as much as I liked her in the Peter Pan tales, it wasn’t by her creation that gave me my interest. It was A Midsummer Night’s Dream by the famous William Shakespeare. His Portrayal of King Oberon and Queen Titania and the rest of the faerie world made me fall in love. I couldn’t get enough of Faeries, Fey, the magical world they created with them. How ever changing stories and folklore were throughout history. I read so many more books on Faeries, including the wonderful Holly Black’s Tithe, Lady Cottington’s Pressed Faerie Letters, and extensive books on folklore, beliefs, and history throughout the world. When I was sixteen, I begged my mother for a tattoo, and I got a Faerie on my back. I guess you could say I became obsessed. But with imagination being an unlimited resource, why wouldn’t one be obsessed?
Our second place winner is Stacy T., who will receive a copy of Blood & Flowers by Penny Blubaugh:
I love the possibility that there is a faerie world out there that is just beyond our reach. I remember a book that I read in about second or third grade about a girl whose hair started to come in green when she reached adolescence and it was because she was a faerie. I can’t remember the name of the book or even the rest of the story, but the idea that she was left with humans until she could rejoin the faerie world had my imagination running wild. Could I really be a faerie? Did I have special abilities that separated me from my classmates? Of course I am not a faerie, but I don’t rule out the possibility that they exist. I love faerie art, especially the art of Brian Froud. I love the way he imagines that faerie world. I love the colors and the wings and how everyone has beautiful hair.
