I started Novel Novice a year ago as a labor of love. It was my pet project. My baby. And one year later, I could not be more thrilled with its success and the thriving site it has turned into.
That said, I could not have done it without the amazing staff that has come together over the last 12 months.
First of all, I am in awe that all these other people have helped support and nurture my little pet project. There aren’t enough words for me to express my gratitude. I feel so incredibly lucky to have everyone on board, and as we go into our second year, I can’t imagine what great ideas they’ll bring to the table next.
Now, let me brag about these wonderful people:
Stephanie (clumzbella) went from a reluctant staff member recruit to my first mate. She is the go-to person I turn to when I have a crazy idea for the site. Her enthusiasm is beyond compare, and I find that during those rare times when I get tired of working on the site, she reinvigorates me and makes me want to get back to it. She reminds me of why I started this site. What’s more, she’s also become a great friend — despite the distance between us. Stephanie is always willing to help out with anything on the site and she’s always got great ideas to keep things fresh. She’s a driving force here at Novel Novice.
And it’s thanks to Stephanie that we have Taylor and her husband Billy both on board. Taylor’s background is in libraries and she has taken the bull by the horns, so to speak, when it comes to integrating American Library Association events into the content here at Novel Novice. And she’s not afraid to try new things, either — whether it be writing book reviews or making book trailers. And it’s thanks to Taylor that we’ve got a very cool Novel Novice CafePress shop.
Taylor’s husband Billy also came aboard last year when I wanted to expand Novel Novice’s features to include graphic novels. That’s also when I recruited my coworker Joe (with whom I can always geek out over the latest superhero movie adaptation). Both Billy and Joe are slowly but surely helping us feature graphic novels of all sorts here at Novel Novice, and I’m excited to see what else they’ve got up their sleeves in 2011.
And of course, there’s Tiffany — who is the original founder of our sister site Novel Novice Twilight. In an indirect way, I really have her to thank for getting me into the book blogging world in the first place. And she continues to contribute original content to Novel Novice — whether it’s her insightful book reviews or clever classroom activities for books like The Hunger Games and The Outsiders. I know Tiffany has some Big Exciting Plans this year, and I can’t wait for her to share these with us here at Novel Novice.
I also can’t say enough nice things about our other Stephanie (artistephie), who is a graphics genius. I create most of the day-to-day graphics you see here, but Stephanie churns out some truly breathtaking desktop wallpapers from time to time that are ALWAYS a huge hit and a major draw for generating new site traffic. You’ve seen her work with our Vampire Diaries desktop wallpapers throughout the year, the Alice in Wonderland wallpapers and she helped me brainstorm the epic undertaking that was our 2011 Twilight Saga desktop calendar.
We also have our newest staff member, Jana, who is enthusiastically planning features and reviews for her passion, Chick Lit. She’s just one part of our continuing efforts to grow and expand our reach. Likewise, many thanks to Libby — who has been absent lately due to a very busy life outside the web — who pioneered our poetry features, and compiled an epic amount of posts throughout the month of April last year for National Poetry Month. I know she’ll be back when she can. And of course, there’s Elena, Novel Novice’s new 11-year-old middle grade reviewer. Elena is a knock-out, rock star reader — and its kids like her that really give me hope and make me want to keep doing what we do here at Novel Novice.
And lastly, I have to say thanks to you — blog readers — for coming back here day after day and supporting the work we do. We would not be where we are today if it wasn’t for your continued and ongoing support.
So thanks, to all of you, for making my little pet project a reality. I can’t tell you how much it means to me.
