Matched by Ally Condie Contest Winners

We were really excited recently to feature Matched by Ally Condie, and we were even more excited to host a contest in which two of you could each win a finished copy of Matched courtesy of Penguin.

For this contest, we took the concept of the “100 songs,” “100 stories,” etc. from Matched and gave you the task of helping choose which songs and stories should be preserved for all time. We didn’t want you to choose all 100, but we asked you to choose 5 songs and 5 stories that you think would be worth saving for society.

We got lots of great feedback on this contest, and we’re glad you guys had fun — it was equally fun reading all your entries, and that made it hard to choose the winners. But choose, we must. We looked for entries that offered the most variety in their selections — since, rhetorically speaking, we did ask you to choose songs & stories to preserve for ALL TIME for ALL OF SOCIETY. These lists are by no means perfect (how could they be?) — but we felt they were the most diverse selections from the entries we received.

So without further ado, here are the two winners & their lists:

Alannah J.:

Songs:

“Secrets” by OneRepublic
“One Love” by Bob Marley
“Niagara en Bicicleta” by Juan Luis Guerra
“Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen
“Amazing Grace”

Books:

Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows
Mockingjay
1984
To Kill a Mockingbird
Little Women

Linda S.:

Songs:

“Nara” by e.s. posthumus
“Never is a Promise” by Fiona Apple
“1812 Overture” – Tchaikovsky
“Who Wants To Live Forever” by Queen
“Thriller” by Michael Jackson

Books:

The Stonecutter: A Japanese Folk Tale by Gerald McDermott
The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel
The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
The Stand by Stephen King
Horton Hears a Who by Dr. Seuss

  1. Woot! (Linda S.) I love winning books!
It hard to choose just five books and songs. I tried to make it broad with varied interests and go with what popped into my mind first.
    Thank you!
