Team Get Some Week: The Bad Boys

All this week we’re teaming up with YA author Suzanne Young to show our support for Team Get Some … that is, the hottest romances in YA fiction.

And today, we’re featuring The Bad Boys … those guys who are so wicked we can’t help but love them; the ones who are so bad they have a heart of gold.

Let’s start with one of our most recent bad boy crushes — Will from Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. Over at Suzanne’s blog, she’s gushing about another of Cassie’s ultimate Bad Boys (Jace, duh!) — but we have a fondness for Will’s old-fashioned charm, rugged approach to life and his seemingly careless attitude to everyone and everything around him. Except, of course, for his undying loyalty to best friend Jem. It’s his relationship with Jem that proves to us how much more there is to his icy exterior. Plus, there’s something about his hot-and-coldness that we just can’t resist.

All this month here at Novel Novice, we’re featuring Becca Fitzpatrick’s Hush, Hush series of books, so it’s only fitting that we include Patch in our list of favorite Bad Boys. From his first moment with Nora, Patch comes off as a total jerk. And it’s only later that we realize part of Patch actually wants to kill her — literally — and for selfish reasons. (He’s not “fighting his instincts” like Edward Cullen; no, Patch has ulterior motives). And yet, much like Nora, Patch has some quality that continually draws us in.

The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith have certainly risen in popularity since the CW adapted them into a hit TV series — but we loved Damon Salvatore’s bad boy ways long before Ian Somerhalder started portraying him on the small screen. (Though it should be noted that we totally adore Ian’s portrayal … it is spot on!) The thing that’s so great about Damon (in both the books & the TV series) is his endlessly contradictory nature. Sure, he likes to act the part of the bad boy … but there are moments every now and then that prove he’s a bit of a softie, especially when it comes to Elena (and even, sometimes, to his brother Stefan).

And if you want a really evil bad boy, look no further than Sin from Nina Malkin’s Swoon. His name alone oozes evil (hello, he’s called “Sin” for a reason!) … and yet, despite his ultimately selfish and generally nefarious motives, Sin’s bad boy nature comes from a good place. And deep down, we come to find out that he may be more capable of love than anyone else.

Be sure to check out Suzanne’s picks, and share your favorite Bad Boys in the comments below!

  1. Mmmm. I totally agree with the picks, though I would have loved to see Irial from the Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr. Irial or Devlin are my top “bad boys” in that series. đŸ˜€

  2. Those are all great choices, but I would have liked to have seen Fang from James Patterson’s Maximum Ride series on the list. There are a few steamy scenes in the books between Max and Fang!
