Writers’ Wednesdays – QueryTracker.Net

If you are an aspiring writer, and serious about trying to get published, you already know it’s a long road from writing the novel to seeing it on the bookshelf. After all the pain, sweat, and tears that goes into writing the manuscript, the next challenge becomes finding an agent to represent your book. Can you self-publish? Do you really need an agent? These questions are hotly debated in the writing community. There are far smarter people than me who have taken the time to answer these questions (can we say topic for next week’s post?).

For those of you writers who have chosen the “I must find an agent to fight for my work and rights as an author” mentality, QueryTracker.net is one of the best sources out there, and it’s FREE!!!! QueryTracker.Net allows you to search for agents who represent your genre. Once you have narrowed down the agents you want to query (and you should always send a few queries at a time rather than query every single agent who represents your genre), you can check a variety of stats ranging from the agent’s partial / full requests rates to how long it takes for a particular agent to reply. There is also a nifty comments section where authors can leave comments about their personal experiences with agents during the querying process. Though it is important to note that authors should refrain from getting too feisty when an agent passes on their work, because agents do check out the comments section.

The site also alerts writers when new agents are seeking clients, or when an agent changes their submission policies. AND if that wasn’t enough, the site also offers a great blog which features interviews with agents and writers and offers contests.

So what are you waiting for writers? Go check out QueryTracker.net!!

  1. I’m not sure why but this site is loading extremely slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
