Teen Read Week “Books With Beat” – Guest Blog: YA Urban

This is Teen Read Week, and we thought what better way to celebrate than by featuring some awesome teen bloggers. So all this week, we’re featuring guest blogs from some of our favorite teen bloggers! That is actual TEENS who blog about books. (Because while the Novel Novice staff loves YA, it’s been a few years since any of us were considered teens).

Today’s guest blog is from YA Urban:

So I’m here today to support guy books, bloggers and authors with beat. We need more, but there are already some beastly ones out there . . .

BEAUTIFUL CREATURES by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. This is the first book the came to my mind when Sara from Novel Novice first started talking to me about a guest post. Written strongly by two amazing authors from a guy’s point of view, I’ve read this book twice. Ethan is an awesome main character with his own personality and a realistic first-person voice. All of the characters are like this (because these two authors are just that good) but Ethan is an easy one to relate to. It’s nice to have a guy POV in a YA urban fantasy for once!

WILDEFIRE by Karsten Knight. Though his book isn’t released yet (coming Summer 2011 from Simon & Schuster), Karsten’s debut urban fantasy based around a teenage Polynesian volcano goddess sounds riveting. I mean, who writes about that? He does! He vlogs with the YA Rebels and gives really good writing advice (it’s nice to get writing advice from another YA bro), plus he’s extremely funny.

NOVEL THOUGHTS from twins Jeremy and Jeffrey West is an amazing book blog. I think I’ve read almost every post they’ve written since June. I got to meet the redhead twins in Atlanta at Decatur Book Festival and they’re really nice, and write deep, to-the-core reviews. Jeremy also does graphics (jwestdesign.tumblr.com)

INKED BOOKS from Travis Pearson, who I also got to meet in Atlanta, writes great reviews and features YA news and vlogs from all over through Inked Books. This book blogger is a Team Zombie member!

There are a few bloggers and authors out there that I could not fit into this post, but not too many – so support YA bros!
