Creative Writing Prompt #13
Did You or Didn’t You?
Every poet has a poem that just isn’t going anywhere (in fact, most poets would say that there are plen-ty of poems in their notebook that are in need of direction). So take one of the poems you’ve abandoned, or one that you’ve just ignored for a while, and change it.
Change everything to the opposite. If you say “you”, write “she” or “he” instead. Be consistent, but change the pronoun.
If you have written “did,” then change it to “didn’t.” Change “can’t” to “can.” And so on.
Has your poem been improved by these edits? Should you change some references back to what they originally were? Play around until the piece has new life.
