Creative Writing Prompt: Free Verse Project

Creative Writing Prompt #4
Free Verse Project

No one ever said you were restricted to writing on paper or on your computer. If you’re looking to make your mark with poetry, consider using other mediums to spell out your verse… like sand, dew, chalk, flower petals, coffee grounds, toys, balloons…

Poets.org’s Free Verse Project encourages participants to take another poet’s well-known lines, write them out in an “alternative” medium that is related to the line of poetry, and take a photo before it disappears (visit their website to see some truly inspiring and awesome creations like the one pictured here). You can then post the shot in the site’s Free Verse group page on Flickr or on the Academy’s Fan Page on Facebook. It’s a great project and you should certainly consider participating.

However, we encourage you to do the same here at Novel Novice. If you have something to say… in pictures… spell it out, capture it on film, and submit your favorite photo to libby.novelnovice@live.com. Use your words, or borrow those of another poet. The graphically inclined among you may be tempted to do some fancy photo manipulation to get your pic to say what you want it to say, but we really recommend getting up close and personal with another tactile medium, not just a mouse.

We’ll publish the best of the best right here on Novel Novice!

  1. You’re right! When writing, especially creative writing,it does not require you to write in paper or to a computer, but you could write it anywhere you like, where you can express yourself freely.
