Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief opens

Oh Percy Jackson fans, the day has finally come: Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief hits theaters everywhere today!

And of course, this wouldn’t be a movie without the original book series by Rick Riordin. Here’s the official synopsis:

What if the gods of Olympus were alive in the 21st Century? What if they still fell in love with mortals and had children who might become great heroes — like Theseus, Jason and Hercules?

What if you were one of those children?

Such is the discovery that launches twelve-year-old Percy Jackson on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction — Zeus’ master bolt. Along the way, he must face a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him. Most of all, he must come to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend.

For the comments: Are you a fan of the Percy Jackson series? Will you be seeing The Lightning Thief in theaters?

  1. I am really excited for this movie! I saw the preview before “New Moon” and was intrigued, so I picked up the book from Borders. After that, I was hooked. I’ve since finished the whole series, and it is awesome.

I’ve always loved the Greek myths, so this was a perfect book for me to read. I’m interested to see how the movie deviates from the novel – because that always happens – but I think it will be very entertaining.

I’m thinking that I might see it sometime this weekend. šŸ˜€

  2. I’ve been wanting to read this book for ages, but never done so. Now I have to hurry up and read it ’cause believe it or not (!!) it “hit” my small town theater here in Norway yesterday!! : o
