In honor of our July Book of the Month, Innocent Darkness by Suzanne Lazear, we’re hosting a Steampunk-a-licious writing contest!
We love how Suzanne Lazear combined other genres with Steampunk for her debut novel, Innocent Darkness. So for our writing contest this month, we want you to combine your own favorite genre with Steampunk for a piece of flash fiction.
Take elements of any genre of your choice and combine it with Steampunk to write a 250-500 word piece of flash fiction – OR write a 250-500 word beginning of a longer story. (But please, ONLY submit 25o-500 words for this contest!)
Use the Novel Novice + Innocent Darkness Steampunk Writing Contest Entry Form to submit your piece.
Need tips on Steampunk? We’ll be featuring information about the genre throughout the coming weeks. (Plus, check out tips at STEAMED!, the blog Suzanne contributes to.)

Bother, bother, bother. I have written two stories and now I don’t know which one to submit. One is kind of creepy and the other is kind of silly, and my siblings are all arguing over which one is better. 😛
Ok, I finally picked the creepy one. It seemed to fit the contest better. 500 words exactly. 🙂
Awesome — can’t wait to read it!
Submitted! I’m looking forward to reading the winning entry.
Well that was fun, but now you’ve left me with a new shiny story idea and my current WIP is only half done. grrr
What a fun genre to write, I have never written any steampunk before. I loved it. I submitted mine and can’t wait to see who wins.
This is great! I’m going to put this in my bookmarks before I misplace the link I don’t believe I’ll ever find my way back otherwise.
