So you want to be a Curse Worker, eh?
Okay, maybe not … but that’s the theme of our new writing contest, in honor of Black Heart by Holly Black — which is IN STORES TODAY!!!!
The Contest
Use the premise of the Curse Workers series, and write your own piece of flash fiction that takes place in their universe: the world of mobsters and magic! You can create your own original characters within the Curse Workers universe, or go the fan fiction route and write about the characters in Holly’s books. Your choice — just have fun & be creative!

In this alternate world story, workers are rare people with magical abilities that sometimes run in families. Using their abilities requires skin contact and is illegal, which is why most workers are part of crime families. About 60% of the population are luck workers, while other skills, such as death working, emotional manipulation, memory manipulation are less common. The rarest worker is one who can change the shape of things.

This is so fun especially since I didn’t know Black Heart was out today! I have never tried fan fiction, but may have to take the challenge. Thanks!
That was fun! I found after I started writing that I didn’t remember all the details I needed, such as which hand did Cassel’s grandad start losing fingers from and whether ‘worker’ should be capitalized.
I know that this contest just ended but I was wondering when we might see the winners announced for several other contests such as the mythology contest, the ditched contest etc ? Thanks So Much
As always, I can NEVER give you a time estimate for announcing contest winners. It takes a lot of time to go through entries & real life responsibilities take priority. Please just be patient & keep checking back. (This will ALWAYS be the answer when you ask about announcing winners, just FYI.)
