Cress

Release date: 4 February 2014

In this third book in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles series, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they’re plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and prevent her army from invading Earth.

Their best hope lies with Cress, who has been trapped on a satellite since childhood with only her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker – unfortunately, she’s being forced to work for Queen Levana, and she’s just received orders to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.

When a daring rescue goes awry, the group is splintered. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price than she’d ever expected. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai, especially the cyborg mechanic. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.

Hopefully since you are reading this review you are up to date on the journey our characters Cinder and Captain Thorne have taken with Scarlet and Wolf.  In this aptly named book we meet Cress, spinning in her satellite in orbit around Earth.

My feelings about The Lunar Chronicles series hasn’t changed since I read and reviewed Scarlet.  If anything my feelings have grown deeper for how Marissa so brilliantly is able to continue to add characters, move the storyline right along and keep me from getting anything done until I finished the book!

One of the many things I love about The Lunar Chronicles is the ability to follow along with whichever characters viewpoint we are following depending on the chapter.  I have never struggled to remember who is speaking.  Marissa does an excellent job of creating strong characters who each have a voice that resonates with me…and hopefully you too!  I do not know of any books other than Cress that I’ve read where there are 7 or more different distinct voices.  If you think of one please leave a comment with info!  The next book is sure to include more voice and I am pumped to see what is next for our group of adventurers.

I’m in love with this world.  Well I wouldn’t want to necessarily live IN the world, because let’s face it, who here wants to deal with Queen Levana?  Seriously, if you just raised your hand then kudos to you my friend.  However it is easy for me to picture each location, the palace, the farm, the ship…all of these things are ingrained in my mind.  The additional additive of a satellite that Cress is living in was fun! I totally enjoyed contemplating the amount of space Cress had to herself.  It would be a really awesome exhibit to have at a museum for people to go in the satellite and hang out in for 15 minutes.  Talk about experiencing what you read, that would be so amazing.

Really though I know the question you have is….which guy is my favorite?  Well I admit it…although I liked getting to know Prince Kai in ‘Cinder’, it wasn’t until ‘Scarlet’ that I fell in love with Wolf.  *fans self*  Which guy do YOU like the most?  And don’t you just wish certain people would MAKE OUT ALREADY haha….although there never seems to be enough time for that it is still my fondest wish.

I read Cress back in October…and am on the edge of my seat waiting for Winter! What are you thoughts on this epic fantasy series?

I highly encourage you to stop by Marissa’s page, find her on twitter and check out The Lunar Chronicles Pinterest page! Her Pinterest page is full of beautiful images…anyway GO LOOK!
