Liar & Spy Rebecca Stead’s New Release

I love Rebecca Stead. She possesses the rare and noble magic of weaving characters together from the inside out – internal organs and bones included. The life she breathes into her cast of misfits’ makes you feel you could invite each of them to breakfast, and know exactly how to prepare their eggs.

When You Me, is Rebecca’s Newbury Award winning novel (and one of my favorite MG books!).  Now, readers can dive into the life of seventh grader, Georges (the S is silent), and his self-appointed spy neighbor, Safer.

My sneak peak review? In a nutshell, I loved it! Which is why I chose it as our August Middle Grade Book of the Month! Look for my full review next Monday.

In the meantime, here is the official synopsis.

“When seventh grader Georges (the S is silent) moves into a Brooklyn apartment building, he meets Safer, a twelve-year-old coffee-drinking loner and self-appointed spy. Georges becomes Safer’s first spy recruit. His assignment? Tracking the mysterious Mr. X, who lives in the apartment upstairs. But as Safer becomes more demanding, Georges starts to wonder: how far is too far to go for your only friend?”

Liar & Spy hits stories August, 7th.

  1. I AM NOT GOING TO LIE: I feel a little apprehensive about this book. Because When You Reach Me was all kinds of awesome for me. Now I have ridiculous standards for middle grade and of course Rebecca Stead. But I still want to read this. I just have to remember to keep my expectations low.
