The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Top 5 in the Fandom

As we continue counting down to this Friday’s release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1, we thought we’d take a look back at our favorite moments from the fandom. After all, Novel Novice’s origins began with the series — and we continue to love and support it.

5. The Fan Sites

From the big guys like Twilight Lexicon, Twilight Moms, Twilight Examiner, and His Golden Eyes — to the plethora of smaller sites all across the web — we LOVE the Twilight Fan Sites. For one thing, we used to count ourselves among them when we ran our old sister site (Novel Novice Twilight, now retired but still in existence). The folks who run these fan sites are truly dedicated, passionate people — and we love that about them. But what’s more, they’re nice and friendly and super-supportive. I don’t think Novel Novice would be where it is today without the help and support we’ve gotten from these sites — so if you’re reading, THANK YOU. Really, from the bottom of our hearts. Not only do we love these sites, but we continue to stalk them regularly for our Twilight fix.

4. Fan Creations

We LOVE that a book series has sparked the creativity and imaginations of fans all around the world. We’ve seen some of the most amazing creations come out of a fan’s love of Twilight: music, art, writing, etc. Here at Novel Novice, we’re particularly impressed with the talented writing behind some of the Twilight fan fiction out there. At our old sister site, we ran regular fan fiction contests — and it never ceased to amaze us how thoughtful, clever, and creative these fans could be.

3. The Movies

Love ’em or hate ’em, the Twilight movies have revolutionized our world. For starters, they proved that a predominately female audience can make or break a blockbuster hit. They also showed that fans of a book series will follow you to the big screen if you make a dedicated adaptation that listens to its built-in audience.

Plus, it’s just fun to see characters and scenes from these beloved books come to life on the big screen! The movies also helped expand the fandom and break it into the mainstream (for better or worse).

2. The Books

We wouldn’t be here without Stephenie Meyer’s novels — and despite what the critics may say (and whatever I may say myself in bouts of criticism), I will defend the Twilight novels until the end. Why? BECAUSE THEY GOT PEOPLE READING!

That’s right, these books inspired a whole new group of readers — and sparked their interest in picking up books for fun. It’s the same thing Harry Potter did, too. So whether you love the series or not, we have Twilight to thank for encouraging new readers! (And in a lot of ways, it helped spark the current powerhouse trend we see in YA lit today, too!)

1. The Fans!

What would this fandom be without its fans!? This passionate group of people (and we count ourselves among them) has helped make The Twilight Saga what it is today. Sure, the media (and non-fans) like to poke fun, but the fact of the matter is this: Twilight fans, in general, are a pretty great group of people. I’ve made a lot of friends through the fandom — and honestly, it’s what introduced me to the plethora of amazing YA literature out there, as well as got me into blogging.

So as we celebrate the pending release of this penultimate movie, take a moment to say “Cheers!” and toast yourself, and the fantastic fandom you’re a part of!

  1. I have questioned some things pertaining to the books but I still love them and think there a great story regardless of what people say.

  2. It got people reading but you don’t get millions of fans who love the Twilight books because it’s a book obviously Stephenie wrote books that matter and make people feel more then some of those classics I’m sorry but it’s true.
