Every Thursday as we countdown to Swear by Nina Malkin, we’ll be bringing you part of our Q&A with her — including our questions, YOUR questions & some flash questions. Here is part 3:
Reader Question: Did Dice really have a thing for Pen? What was Pen’s connection to Sin in appearance, and why was that? — BM Dimension
Yeah, kinda crazy, huh! When Sin’s spirit entered Pen’s body, two souls existed in the same being: Pen, Dice’s cousin, and Sin, a tortured young man executed in 1769. Physical contact was the catalyst to make Sin appear—as Dice discovered, she had to literally reach out and touch Pen in order to communicate with Sin. Dice’s affection for Pen was completely platonic, though she did sometimes instigate some clinch-y situations, one where they were literally “kissing cousins.” Of course, all that changed after the ritual that got Sin out of Pen’s body and inadvertently unleashed his seductive rampage on the town of SWOON.
Novel Novice Question: I know it wasn’t always certain there would be a sequel, but did you always have one in mind? Or did you wait to come up with plans for SWEAR until you knew it was a done deal?
Sinclair Youngblood Powers is a presence in my life; he has been for a few years now, and he remains so. I consider him a friend—a sometimes maddening but always interesting friend. So after SWOON came out, Sin and I would talk—about him, and Dice, and what the $^@#*! happened and what would happen next. “Bring me back!” he would alternately cajole and demand. But let’s be real here: If it weren’t for the support of readers — SWOONIES, if we may — there wouldn’t be a SWEAR. Readers made SWOON a success. Readers pushed SWOON into its 10th printing and its international editions. Despite the fact that SWOON isn’t a by-the-numbers novel with a familiar plot, easy language and comfortable characters, readers proved there is a place for sexy, escapist paranormal romance that’s thought provoking too. So its readers we (myself and Sin) want to thank right now. And if there is to be a third book, a full-on SWOON trilogy, reader support will be the catalyst for that. I could start writing the third book now, but unless SWEAR sweeps off the shelves, my cats will be the only ones who’ll get to read it.
Flash Question: You’re on a deserted island and have to read one book for the rest of your life. What is it?
A life-spanning photo album of family and friends, human and animal.
One more round of questions next Thursday before Swear is in stores!
