Recent Novel Novice Contest Winners

Here’s a round-up of the latest Novel Novice contest winners …

For this contest, we asked you to tell us what author Michelle Hodkin said a Mara Dyer candle would smell like. The correct answer is:

Something dark and spicy, like cloves.

And the winner of a copy of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin is:

Tyler H.

Congrats!

For this contest, we asked you to answer the following question based on the video featuring Scott Westerfeld and Alan Cumming talking about the Leviathan series audio books:

What advice would Alan Cumming (semi-jokingly) give Scott Westerfeld about writing the Leviathan books?

The correct answer was:

Write less Turkish words

And the winner is:

Cathleen K.

You’ll receive a complete set of the Leviathan trilogy audio books — congrats!

For this contest, we asked you to choose whether you’d be a Clanker or a Darwinist in the world of the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. Two winners will each get a complete set of the books. The winners are:

Audrey S., who said Darwinists

and Meredith M., who also said Darwinists

Congrats!

For this contest, we asked you to tell us whether you liked the new or original covers for the Uglies series by Scott Westerfeld better. Two winners will each get a complete set of all four books. The winners are:

Briana L., who picked the original covers because:

They intrigue my mind about the book.

And Amanda B., who picked the new covers because:

They’re more mysterious and exciting. 🙂

Congrats!

For this contest, we asked:

In Isle of Night, Annelise gives up everything to go to a mysterious island, where she’s pitted in a deadly competition to become a watcher for vampires. If you were in her shoes, would you do the same?

The winner is: Hannah S., who wrote:

I would love to say yes but being completely honest probably not because I would be to freaked out!

Congrats! Hannah will receive a copy of Isle of Night courtesy of author Veronica Wolff.

For this contest, we asked: Would you rather live in the present day, or some time period of the past?

Two winners will each receive a finished copy of The Jewel & the Key by Louise Spiegler. The winners & their responses are:

Amy S., who wrote:

I love reading and learning about the past but I would prefer to live in the present days. We have so much conveniences now like the toliet, telephones, cars, etc. And also rights as women and social standings are changed for the better. So definitely the present.

and Shannoin C., who wrote:

I would rather live in present day.  I am rather partial to electricity and modern medical technology.

Congrats!

For this contest, we asked you to tell us which of author Lisa McMann’s books are your favorite. The winner receives a signed copy of her new middle grade book, The Unwanteds, and a signed ARC of her upcoming new YA novel, Dead to You.

The winner is: Mindy J., who wrote:

I haven’t read any of Lisa’s books yet, but I can’t wait to start!

Congrats!

For this contest, we asked: Would you ever consider summoning the Furies to exact justice? Why/why not? Under what circumstances?

Five winners will each receive a signed copy of Fury by Elizabeth Miles. The winners & their responses are:

Amy D.:

No, I don’t think that I would. I haven’t thought about it much, although it seems there would be a better way to exact justice than doing so through basically an evil monster.

Gabbi C.:

That’s such a tough question! At this point in my life, no. Nobody has ever done anything horrible enough for me to want to deliver that sort of punishment. But if someone murdered one of my friends or my family members, then yeah, I probably would. I love them too much!

Angela B.:

Yes, if my daughter or granddaughters were ever molested, I would summon the Furies in a minute.  If my sons were ever seriously hurt by someone, I would summon the Furies just as fast.   I would notd call the Furies for just any injustice, it would have to be major.

Munnaza A.:

I wouldn’t call upon the Furies unless it was a last resort. There are some instances where, no matter what you do, justice is beyond your grasp. Sometimes, it’s okay to accept that the world isn’t fair, but in cases like terrorism, rape, and murder, if the courts can’t do anything about it, and you know for a fact that a gruesome inhumane act was committed, I think a force needs to be summoned to exact justice.

Kelsey S.:

No, I trust, or at least try to trust our justice system. I believe in karma though, that’s for sure!

Congrats!
