YA Author Stasia Ward Kehoe: How to Write a Kissing Scene

I know not all books have romance in them, but some of my favorite ones certainly do. And some of the best parts involve kissing. Mmmm, kissing.

But how do YA authors write such fabulous kissing scenes? Well, the fabulous Stasia Ward Kehoe — whose upcoming book Audition features some fab kissing — shares her secret:

You can catch Stasia on the Stages on Pages Tour coming this October-November, and check out Audition in stores October 13th:

When high school junior Sara wins a coveted scholarship to study ballet, she must sacrifice everything for her new life as a professional dancer-in-training. Living in a strange city with a host family, she’s deeply lonely-until she falls into the arms of Remington, a choreographer in his early twenties. At first, she loves being Rem’s muse, but as she discovers a surprising passion for writing, she begins to question whether she’s chosen the right path. Is Rem using her, or is it the other way around? And is dancing still her dream, or does she need something more? This debut novel in verse is as intense and romantic as it is eloquent.

For the comments: What do you think of Stasia’s secret for writing a good kissing scene? She practiced with her hubby, but who would you smooch for writing research?

  1. cute and too funny! I wouldn’t be able to get away so easily if I practiced on my hubby. And its funny…if her hubby was to finish that scene it would read: Their eyes met. The kiss was surprising in intensity but somewhat lacking in longevity. The promise of what could come next disappeared as quickly as her lips, leaving him frustrated and wanting more.
