This weekend, Suzanne Young & I drove up to Seattle together for KidLitCon — where we schmoozed with Scott Westerfeld, hung out with other authors & bloggers, and hosted a presentation on authors & bloggers team up for unique promotional content. All in all, it was a pretty swell weekend.
During Scott Westerfeld’s keynote address, he talked a bit about fan art and fan fiction. In particular, he noted how most pieces of fan art or fan fiction don’t depict action; but rather, they show quieter moments between characters. And sometimes, smuttier moments that don’t quite make it into the book. During this part of his speech, Suzanne leaned over to me and bemoaned, “Oh man, I want fan art and fan fiction.”
I tried to oblige, but my attempt at fan art was … well … a bit lackluster:
Yeah, my artistic skills are seriously lacking.
But YOU, fine friends, are a talented bunch! And because I know you love cool prizes — and because Suzanne is a friend, and I think her book deserves fan art and fan fiction — I’m putting out a call to arms! If you create fan art or fan fiction for A Need So Beautiful and post it online, I’ll hook you up with some signed swag from Suzanne.

And remember:
- Fan fiction does NOT have to follow the “canon” of the book
- You can write fan fiction with ANY rating (ie, you can go very risque … in fact, Suzanne would probably love that!)
- Have fun!
A Need So Beautiful Fan Art
Create your own original fan art for A Need So Beautiful:
- paintings, drawings, manga, etc.
- photo manipulations
- music, collage, etc.
- Anything else you can think of!
Then post the art online — at Deviant Art, Tumblr, your blog, etc. — just make sure it’s a public site anyone can see without logging in. Then send us the link here, along with your mailing info. When we see it’s been posted, we’ll send you some goodies!
What about fan fiction & fan art for The Naughty List series?
Yep, if you follow the above guidelines and create fan fiction or fan art for Suzanne’s Naughty List series, we’ll hook you up, as well.
