Blog Tour: Review of Crush Control by Jennifer Jabaley

We’re so pleased to be a stop on Jennifer Jabaley’s blog tour for her new book, Crush Control, which hit stores June 9! It’s the perfect summer read, and we’ll tell you why after we tell you a little about the book.

Here’s the synopsis:

Willow has spent most of her life as her mother’s sidekick in a popular Las Vegas hypnotism show. So when she and her mom move back to their sleepy southern hometown to start over, she thinks she’s in for a life of quiet normalcy. Except that her new life turns out to be anything but, when she kinda sorta hypnotizes Quinton, the hottest guy on the football team, to fall madly, deeply, head over heels in love with her. But what started out as an innocent way to make her best friend, Max, jealous soon gets way out of hand, and Willow begins to wonder if the mind – and more importantly, the heart – is something you can really control.

Here’s why Crush Control should be near the top of your summer to-read list: REINVENTION.

In the days leading up to the first day of school each year, who hasn’t dreamed of completely reinventing themselves for the year ahead? Who hasn’t looked at someone they’ve grown up with–possibly done embarrassing, gross things with, like flicking boogers–and wondered, “When did they get so … hot?”

This is the situation for Willow, except she didn’t just take the summer off, she and her mom moved away for years. She left behind her BFF, Max, who was still in that scrawny, boys/girls are gross stage. Now? Not so much. Willow hopes for a reunion full of fireworks and love confessions, but what she gets is an embarrassing run-in with Quinton, the hottest guy at school, and Minnie, Max’s girlfriend. Oops.

She takes a stab at a new, exciting lifestyle by adopting parts of her mother’s identity as the popular Vegas Hip Hypnotist, but of course, things go wrong. First, they go right, but then the consequences catch up with Willow’s actions.

What makes this so beach-worthy? It never gets bogged down in deep, preachy revelations, instead telling an important story through witty, relatable characters that keep readers flipping the pages. And while it’s a tad bit predictable, it’s still totally delicious and satisfying.

Crush Control is in stores now.
