What a busy week! Here’s a round-up of the biggest YA-related news … share any additional news we missed in the comments below!
* On Sunday night, the MTV Movie Awards will include an exclusive first look at The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (to be presented by Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart & Taylor Lautner), but earlier this week MTV gave us a little teaser that’s totally worth checking out.
And if you look closely, you’ll be able to catch Stephenie Meyer, Wyck Godfrey & Melissa Rosenberg in a brief cameo! The tagline for Breaking Dawn was also revealed: “Forever is only the beginning.”
* In The Hunger Games movie world, actor Donald Sutherland was cast as President Snow. It was also revealed that Lionsgate has the rights to produce FOUR movies in The Hunger Games franchise (though no one’s certain what exactly that would entail … a prequel? Splitting Mockingjay? Something else?) Suzanne Collins also released a message to the fans, about her work on the screenplay with director Gary Ross.
* This week, Screen Gems revealed that actor Jamie Campbell Bower had been cast as Jace in their upcoming movie adaptation of Cassandra Clare’s City of Bones! He’ll star alongside Lily Collins as Clary Fray. Jamie’s past credits include the TV show Camelot, and notable film roles in Sweeney Todd, HP & the Deathly Hallows, and The Twilight Saga. Cassie Clare later shared her thoughts on the casting to Hollywood Crush.
* Cassie also revealed the jacket copy for Clockwork Prince:
In the magical underworld of Victorian London, Tessa Gray has at last found safety with the Shadowhunters. But that safety proves fleeting when rogue forces in the Clave plot to see her protector, Charlotte, replaced as head of the Institute. If Charlotte loses her position, Tessa will be out on the street—and easy prey for the mysterious Magister, who wants to use Tessa’s powers for his own dark ends.
With the help of the handsome, self-destructive Will and the fiercely devoted Jem, Tessa discovers that the Magister’s war on the Shadowhunters is deeply personal. He blames them for a long-ago tragedy that shattered his life. To unravel the secrets of the past, the trio journeys from mist-shrouded Yorkshire to a manor house that holds untold horrors, from the slums of London to an enchanted ballroom where Tessa discovers that the truth of her parentage is more sinister than she had imagined. When they encounter a clockwork demon bearing a warning for Will, they realize that the Magister himself knows their every move—and that one of their own has betrayed them.
Tessa finds her heart drawn more and more to Jem, but her longing for Will, despite his dark moods, continues to unsettle her. But something is changing in Will—the wall he has built around himself is crumbling. Could finding the Magister free Will from his secrets and give Tessa the answers about who she is and what she was born to do?
As their dangerous search for the Magister and the truth leads the friends into peril, Tessa learns that when love and lies are mixed, they can corrupt even the purest heart.
*Are you dying to read Forever by Maggie Stiefvater? She’s got one last chance for you to win an ARC going on at her website. You can also enter to win one here. Check it out! (I was lucky enough to snag a copy while at BEA last week, and just finished reading it. Guys, Forever is absolutely stunning!)
* Speaking of cool contests … one of our favorites here at Novel Novice, Kimberly Pauley, is giving you a chance to win a short story based on her Sucks to Be Me series, featuring YOU as one of the characters!
* If you’re a fan of Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series, then you’ll be excited to see the newly-revealed cover of The Iron Knight:
* One of the books being previewed last week at BEA was Guys Read: Thriller an anthology of short stories intented to get more guys reading, and coming to stores 9/20/11. (Despite the title, girls can totally read it, too.) Walden Pond Press has posted this hilarious video of authors Matt de la Peña, Jon Scieszka & Jarrett Krosoczka at their BEA signing, when Jarrett mistook the title for the Michael Jackson album “Thriller” and dressed accordingly:
* For our comic book fans, some cool news regarding DC Comics, and their plans to “relaunch” most of their series:
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — DC Comics is going back to the starting point in September, renumbering its entire lineup of DC Universe titles with No. 1 and retooling nearly all of its major characters, including Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman. USA Today reported on its website Tuesday that the comics publisher will launch upward of more than 50 issues, all starting
at No. 1, in September, with Justice League No. 1, written by the company’s chief creative officer Geoff Johns and illustrated by co-publisher Jim Lee.The newspaper reports that that book will reunite the classic lineup of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman and Green Lantern.
The move is part of DC’s efforts to reflect current themes and events and will feature characters with costumes redesigned and by Lee.
