This past Memorial Day weekend kicked off the beginning of summer. Many of you have just finished school or will be finishing up soon. So, now that school is out and you have time to relax, whatever will you do to fill those long, hot summer days?
May we suggest, while you’re lounging by the pool, heading to the beach or going on vacation, be sure to pick up a good book from your TBR list (To Be Read). If you’ve been so entrenched in school work that you haven’t had time to compile a list, be sure to check out the YALSA Teens’ Top Ten nomination list for 2011. This year’s list of nominees includes:

Why do we recommend this particular list? These books are selected BY TEENS, FOR TEENS.
Teens’ Top Ten is a “teen choice” list, where teens nominate and choose their favorite books of the previous year! Nominators are members of teen book groups in sixteen school and public libraries around the country. Nominations are posted on Support Teen Literature Day during National Library Week, and teens across the country vote on their favorite titles each year. Readers ages twelve to eighteen will vote online between Aug. 22 and Sept. 16; the winners will be announced during Teen Read Week. -YALSA
This list isn’t what adults THINK you should read, it’s a list of titles compiled by your peers they really enjoyed. You might recognize quite a few of these titles because we’ve covered them HERE at Novel Novice and we’ll be highlighting them again throughout the summer months. Be on the lookout for a summer reading contest in the very near future. Hint: You might want to start reading the titles on this list!
For the comments: Have you read any of these titles yet? What did you think?

i’d go for The Iron King, Mockingjay, and Matched. in that order. 🙂
