Comic book fans, rejoice! The blockbuster summer movie season kicks off today with the release of Thor, based on the classic Marvel comic book — and we couldn’t be more excited to check out this big screen adaptation.
Let’s explore just some of the reasons we’re pumped about this movie:
1. Thor comes from a great universe of super heroes, otherwise known as the Avengers — and comes from a great building franchise of movies from Paramount. This movie follows the same universe as Iron Man and Iron Man 2 (and if you were paying attention at the end of IM2, you caught a sneak peek at Thor). Later this summer, fans can also check out the beginnings of this group of superheroes with Captain America: The First Avenger — plus, Paramount has a whole bunch of other movies in the works to follow this universe. It’s fantastic.
2. Before hitting up Thor on the big screen, we’ve got the perfect opportunity to go re-read those dog-eared comic books (“graphic novels” to the more high-brow crowd) and expose new readers to the comic books, as well.
3. Hello, big screen hotties. Have you seen the trailer for Thor? Chris Hemsworth in the title role looks beyond hot. And for the guys, you’ve got leading lady Natalie Portman. We’re also totally okay with checking out this hunk of eye candy in IMAX 3D. (Did you see his abs?!?!)
4. SUMMER MOVIE SEASON. Yeah, well, as much as we’re a bunch of book nerds here at Novel Novice, we do so love our blockbuster movies — and summer movie season is generally a really good time for these blockbusters. This year in particular is especially promising, with so many exciting movies slated for release in the coming months. And Thor marks the beginning of this season with a bang.
