National Library Week April 10-16, 2011

National Library Week: Create your own story @ your library

What is National Library Week?

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. It is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support. All types of libraries – school, public, academic and special – participate.

We love our libraries! They offer us access to loads of free materials and information. Check out the list of Library contests below for your chance to win great prizes as we celebrate National Library Week:

  • The Why I Need My Library Teen Video Contest is open until April 18th! Get your entries in to win money for your library and a $50 gift card for yourself! Click the link for full details.
  • National Library Week “twaiku” Contest: Do you Tweet? Can you create a haiku? Then check out the twaiku contest for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card.
  • Are you a baseball fan? Then Step Up to the Plate @ your library. Answer trivia questions and come October you could find yourself on a trip for two to the Hall of Fame’s World Series Gala event in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Stop by on Thursday for Support Teen Lit Day. YALSA will announce the 2011 Teens’ Top Ten nominees. Get your summer reading list ready with the nominees so you can vote for your Top Ten favorites in August.
