Celebrating Teen Tech Week 2011

Mix & Mash @ your library
Of course we know we’re not a library… but we do know that libraries are awesome! Where else can you get free books, internet, music, video games, DVDs, etc.? The Young Adult Library Services Association recognizes the important role technology has in the lives of teens. This week YALSA is celebrating the 5th Teen Tech Week. What is Teen Tech Week, you ask?
According to YALSA:
Teen Tech Week is a national initiative sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association and is aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries such as DVDs, databases, audiobooks, and videogames. Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries’ nonprint resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology. Teen Tech Week began in 2007 and has a general theme of Get Connected @ your library.
So what does this mean to you? A chance to learn more about the technology available at your local library, technology centered contests, resources for safe social media experiences, free technology and ideas on how to use it and much more. We’ll be highlighting Teen Tech Week content here at Novel Novice this week. Tomorrow we’ll share info on how to win some awesome prizes! Don’t forget to check out what your local library is doing to celebrate Teen Tech Week!
