It’s been getting a lot of hype in the media over the last several months … some good, plenty negative when it comes to co-author James Frey. But let’s face it, good or bad there HAS been plenty of buzz about Pitacus Lore’s I Am Number Four. And today, the movie adaptation starring Alex Pettyfer and Diana Agron hits theaters.
We reviewed the book when it came out last summer, and I have a feeling that this is a rare case when the movie may actually be better than the book. Why? Well, it felt like parts of the book were written for the screen. Parts of it read almost like a screenplay. So I’m excited to see how it translates to the screen. (Okay, and I’m also going purely for the eye candy factor. Hellooooo, Alex Pettyfer! Who’s with me?!)
Well, in case you need a refresher or some extra eye candy teasing, here’s the movie trailer & a bit more about the book:
In the beginning they were a group of nine. Nine aliens who left their home planet of Lorien when it fell under attack by the evil Mogadorian. Nine aliens who scattered on Earth. Nine aliens who look like ordinary teenagers living ordinary lives, but who have extraordinary, paranormal skills. Nine aliens who might be sitting next to you now.
The Nine had to separate and go into hiding. The Mogadorian caught Number One in Malaysia, Number Two in England, and Number Three in Kenya. All of them were killed. John Smith, of Paradise, Ohio, is Number Four. He knows that he is next.
I AM NUMBER FOUR is the thrilling launch of a series about an exceptional group of teens as they struggle to outrun their past, discover their future—and live a normal life on Earth.
I AM NUMBER FOUR.
I AM NEXT.

I cannot even wait to see this story played out on the big screen!
I’m excited for this movie and already bought tickets for tomorrow afternoon. And I agree – there are quite a few moments in the book that felt like a screenplay. I can’t wait to see how it all gets translated onto the big screen.
And YES, Alex Pettyfer! *sigh* He’s getting signed on for a lot of book-to-movie films. I will be especially interested to see his acting talent, since it’s been said that he’s a pick for the role of Jace in the “City of Bones” movie.
I saw the movie last night… one of the few bonuses of working in a move theatre. It was really entertaining. Fast paced, dramatic, and a lot of action. I haven’t read the book (which is a rare thing for me when I know a movie if a book first) but I could follow the plot easily. I think it’s going to do well.
