It’s time to announce the fourth of our five runners-up in our Contest of Epic, and today that honor goes to Shelley L.:
There is much about Novel Novice that I like best. One thing I like is the reviews on new books. They have changed the way I approach reading because they make me consider books I never would have considered before. Usually I have a very limited genre of books that I read and I never used to stray outside of my comfort zone. I used to hate historical fiction until Novel Novice did a book review on Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly. I was swayed by the review to give this book a try and I loved it.
I also like the contests because they make me want to read books I might not normally read, my viewpoint now being that if it’s free I’ll read anything. This adds much to the annoyance of my local librarian when I check out ten books at a time. The contests also provide me with an outlet for my creative writing and it’s always exciting to see if I won.
Finally, Novel Novice sealed in my decision to be an English Teacher. I had been considering it for a long time but I couldn’t make up my mind. I found this site and its suggestions on how to use certain books in the classroom thrilled me. It gave me ideas and let me know that if I ever needed help there was a site out there that could provide it for me. This site provides many different things for me, from reviews of new books to ideas in the classroom. I know that I will be a follower of Novel Novice for a long time.
