The Saturday Post: Steamy Dreamy Photos, Covers & More

* On Monday, the ALA announced the 2011 winners of the Youth Media Awards (see our recap here). A tradition for many years has been for the winners of the Newbery and Caldecott awards to then appear later that same week on The Today Show. Not this year. Instead, Today canceled the ALA’s slot and instead … they interviewed Snooki about her “book.” Publisher’s Weekly has a good recap of the debacle. Needless to say, outrage was had by all in the literary community. (We’re disgusted.)

* To get over our disgust, we spent much time drooling over the newly-released still image from part one of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn featuring the newlyweds Bella & Edward getting cozy on their honeymoon. The real photo can only be found in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly, but some screen caps have made it around & the Twilight Examiner has a recap of the coverage. We also made desktop wallpapers. Shazam! You’re welcome, world.

* Oh, you wanted MORE eye candy? Then have you been checking out the sizzling teaser photos that Vania & Cassandra Clare have been tweeting since last weekend from the City of Fallen Angels book trailer shoot? We’re still not convinced that this book trailer will be rated PG-13 (these photos are STEAMY!) but we’re also not sure we care. Here’s a peek:

(Yes, that’s Jace & Clary MAKING OUT!!!! ZOMG!)

Check out Vania and Cassie’s twitter accounts for more, and head to the Mortal Instruments Examiner for more extensive coverage.

* Time for some cover reveals! Simon & Schuster has released cover art and promotional information for its upcoming summer release Blood Red Road by Moira Young. We’ve got a very early copy sitting here that we’re SO excited to read. And this cover makes us even more psyched:

Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That’s fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when a monster sandstorm arrives, along with four cloaked horsemen, Saba’s world is shattered. Lugh is captured, and Saba embarks on an epic quest to get him back.

Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the world outside of desolate Silverlake, Saba is lost without Lugh to guide her. So perhaps the most surprising thing of all is what Saba learns about herself: she’s a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization.

Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetically minimal writing style, violent action, and an epic love story. Moira Young is one of the most promising and startling new voices in teen fiction.

* Another cover reveal comes from Harper Collins for The Power of Six, the upcoming sequel to I Am Number Four:

* Exciting news from author Sarah Rees Brennanthe movie rights for The Demon’s Lexicon have been optioned! Now, we know this doesn’t necessarily mean a movie WILL be made … but we’re keeping our fingers crossed!

*One book we’re looking forward to next month is The Book of Tomorrow by Cecelia Ahern (she also wrote PS. I Love You, which was turned into a movie with Hillary Swank & Gerard Butler). Well, here’s a neat treat from HarperCollins … you can get the e-book edition of another of her books, Thanks for the Memories for only $1.99!! It’s a limited time offer though, so hurry. (It goes back to $9.99 on 1/25). You can find the e-book deal at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony, the Apple iBookstore (just search for Thanks for the Memories and it comes right up), and other e-book retail sites. Thanks to Mark at HC for the heads’ up!

For the comments: Any news we missed? I wouldn’t be surprised … it can be hard keeping track of everything! Share the news (and a link, if you like) in the comments below!
